Remember Ted Kennedy in 1987 claiming that if the Senate confirmed Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, women would be forced into back-alley abortions [and] blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters? Not vitriolic.
How about the 1991 high-tech lynching by Senate Dems of Clarence Thomas? Again, not vitriolic.
Or the infamous NAACP dragging-death ad of 2000 in which George W. Bush was accused of killing the victim all over again? Nope, not vitriolic.
No, the political vitriol didnt begin until 2008. And it was Sarah Palins fault. That is, if you believe CNN, and, apparently, John McCain. This morning, CNNs senior White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny said:
By not having Sarah Palin at the service as well, and this was the wishes of his family, we are learning, he is also trying to perhaps put something back in the bottle that he helped, sort of, create in that 2008 campaign. Thats when this vitriol was sort of first beginning.

CNN - Certainly Not News
Wellstone Memorial, Part Deux.
If only all the nation’s enemies were this dang DUMB.
The Left has become insufferable.
There was hardly anyone more vitriolic than McShame.
To McCain, Palin was chosen as a “PC gesture”, and eye candy; HE could be the “inclusive” one, who actually picked a woman as a running mate...his way of challenging a black candidate.
However, Palin wasn’t supposed to “kick in” and actually preach conservatism...that wasn’t McCain’s plan. I think it embarrassed him amongst his “across the aisle” buddies, plus, it pulled the spotlight off him, and on to her...something a narcissist cannot stand.
So, McCain pouted. His campaign went to hell, and he finally just gave up.
However, Palin was never disrespectful to McCain before, during, or since, the campaign.
This funeral “un-invite” is from-the-grave vitriol from a spoiled, military brat, getting in his last vestiges of a tantrum.
Let me make a simple suggestion.
CNN has become nothing more than a lying 24 hr Anti-Trump agenda propaganda machine.
Let’s quit posting anything that CNN does or says, because it has absolutely NO VALUE.
They are worse than Democratic Underground which is not one sane soul on there.
2008 the author says:

The Mavericks buck stops here.
John McCain is no longer the medias delight and his partys burr, bucking convention with infectious relish.
The man used to be such a constructive independent that some of his Republican Senate colleagues called him a traitor. Now hes such a predictable obstructionist that hes in the just-say-no vanguard with the same conservatives who used to despise him.
On Tuesday afternoon on the floor, Senator Mitch McConnell, who contemptuously fought McCains campaign finance reform bill all the way to the Supreme Court, oozed admiration toward his Arizona colleague, as McCain did yet another grandstanding fandango on the health care bill. ...
FYI - Google “vindictive John McCain” and you get 71,000 hits.
During the 2000 primaries, McCain blamed Bush for the robo calls in South Carolina saying McCain had fathered a black illegitimate child and yet Bush is doing a eulogy and Palin is banned.
Excellent historical catch.
Because SHE caused vitriol? The media sent an Army to Alaska to find dirt on her. Accused her of causing her child to have Downs Syndrome. Pried into her children’s lives? Slandered her, humiliated her and tried to ruin her? Accused her of causing the shooting in Arizona? SHE caused vitriol? Really?
These pukes are delusional.
Liberal leftists exemplify hypocrisy. You want vitriol? Man, I can give you vitriol. After putting up with this mess for more than 40 years, we’ve had enough. In the minds of Democrats, anyone who opposes them is a criminal. You folks had better back off.
How about Obama’s comment saying get in their faces? Did not Obama also say if they bring a knife we bring a gun?
Projection is a human trait. We recognize our own failings in others.
And not only has W been invited, but he’s been asked to speak.
Vitriol began in 2008 with Sarah Palin? First of all, McCain is the master of vitriol, at least against his own party. Second, anyone remember 1964 with the daisy ad against Barry Goldwater? The poll of psychiatrists saying he was crazy? Third, I remember the media sending teams of reporters out to Alaska to dig up dirt on Palin. If it wasn’t for Palin, McCain would have lost worse than he did - his ship was dead in the water until he picked her.
AT&T owns CNN.
Sarah was the only bright light in the darkness of the McCain campaign.
The simple fact that CNN has now adopted McCain as their shining light of example says everything you need to know about him...
...and CNN.
FAKE NEWS
Watch him speak eloquently, he’s always been capable of doing so regarding subject matter he agrees with and cares about. It’s a tell that he doesn’t, whenever he fumbles and fudges, misspeaking all over the place. Like he did when trying to speak to the conservative base.
