President Trump should award John McCain, who died on Saturday, the Medal of Honor. The posthumous award would recognize the senators extraordinary heroism during his five years of captivity in North Vietnam, when he was tortured mercilessly, leaving him disabled for life. The compassionate and respectful gesture might also help to heal some deep wounds in the Republican Party. McCain was a Navy fighter pilot when his plane was shot down on a mission over the North Vietnamese capital of Hanoi in 1967. He fractured both arms and one leg when he was ejected from his jet and nearly drowned when he parachuted into a lake. North Vietnamese pulled the badly injured McCain from the lake and attacked him. One bayonetted him and crushed his shoulder with a rifle butt.

Obviously Ms. Peek has no friggin' idea what the Medal of Honor represents.
Trying to make the CMH a participation trophy
Hey Ms Peek Sweetheart, the guy was executed 30 days following his sentencing FYI.
It says *not on his own terms* so there’s that. Think about it.
He got the Distinguished Flying Cross, despite the fact that he couldn't fly a plane without crashing it.
I'll be magnanimous. I won't piss on his grave.
Ignore her, Mr. President. What does she know about honor? Did she serve? No, she's spent a disproportionate amount of her time worrying about her makeup and what dress to wear. Please award the Medal of Honor only upon the recommendation of those far more qualified than Liz Peek.
What are they going to ask for when Hillary’s time comes. The country will have to close for a week to mourn. We should rename Washington. I am sure he had some connection to slaves.
McCains part time roommate Col Bud Day got the Medal of Honor
He always stood by McCain, campaigned for him
Bud Day was a true true hero
But if you read the history, McCain was only Bud Days cellmate for half of his time
I believe it was what he did the other half of his time (collaboration) that earned McCain the deep contempt of many of the senior POWs
The American Legion might have bashed Trump but notice the deep conspicuous silence of much of the military
Notice these guys expressed no condolences

So the media values the Medal of Honor on par with a participation trophy?
Bud Day’s citation:
On 26 August 1967, Col. Day was forced to eject from his aircraft over North Vietnam when it was hit by ground fire. His right arm was broken in 3 places, and his left knee was badly sprained. He was immediately captured by hostile forces and taken to a prison camp where he was interrogated and severely tortured. After causing the guards to relax their vigilance, Col. Day escaped into the jungle and began the trek toward South Vietnam. Despite injuries inflicted by fragments of a bomb or rocket, he continued southward surviving only on a few berries and uncooked frogs. He successfully evaded enemy patrols and reached the Ben Hai River, where he encountered U.S. artillery barrages. With the aid of a bamboo log float, Col. Day swam across the river and entered the demilitarized zone. Due to delirium, he lost his sense of direction and wandered aimlessly for several days. After several unsuccessful attempts to signal U.S. aircraft, he was ambushed and recaptured by the Viet Cong, sustaining gunshot wounds to his left hand and thigh. He was returned to the prison from which he had escaped and later was moved to Hanoi after giving his captors false information to questions put before him. Physically, Col. Day was totally debilitated and unable to perform even the simplest task for himself. Despite his many injuries, he continued to offer maximum resistance. His personal bravery in the face of deadly enemy pressure was significant in saving the lives of fellow aviators who were still flying against the enemy. Col. Day’s conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the U.S. Armed Forces.

James Stockdale’s citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while senior naval officer in the Prisoner of War camps of North Vietnam. Recognized by his captors as the leader in the Prisoners’ of War resistance to interrogation and in their refusal to participate in propaganda exploitation, Rear Adm. Stockdale was singled out for interrogation and attendant torture after he was detected in a covert communications attempt. Sensing the start of another purge, and aware that his earlier efforts at self-disfiguration to dissuade his captors from exploiting him for propaganda purposes had resulted in cruel and agonizing punishment, Rear Adm. Stockdale resolved to make himself a symbol of resistance regardless of personal sacrifice. He deliberately inflicted a near-mortal wound to his person in order to convince his captors of his willingness to give up his life rather than capitulate. He was subsequently discovered and revived by the North Vietnamese who, convinced of his indomitable spirit, abated in their employment of excessive harassment and torture toward all of the Prisoners of War. By his heroic action, at great peril to himself, he earned the everlasting gratitude of his fellow prisoners and of his country. Rear Adm. Stockdale’s valiant leadership and extraordinary courage in a hostile environment sustain and enhance the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

McCain citation would read:
“Sucking up to media and liberal democrats, McCain heroically attacked any conservative within range, and many beyond. Never met a liberal he objected to and never met a conservative he wouldn’t back-stab, McCain showed great gallantry in service of Democrats, Big Business, illegal immigration and cheap labor.”
These career politicians spend 40+ years in office, accummulate wealth for themselves (on a government salary), increases our deficits and solve nothing in the way of our problems on immigration, poverty, homelessness, etc.
And for this they want a medal?
One answer: NO.
With a small cup of weed seeds to go with them, hey ya gotta water something while you’re at it.
Hope not, but it would be cool if he gives a metal of honor to Sarah Palin before 2020.
How about a participation trophy?
“Liz Peek: Mr. Trump, make a magnanimous gesture and award McCain the Medal of Honor”
Hey Liz...take at peek at this!
Forget it, let’s not reward such a jacka$$. The way he treated Sarah was despicable, Obama-care hurt millions, he fought closing up the border, and the jerk made nice with our enemies in the Middle East, NO, please do not do anything for that vindictive, little man or his family.
Somebody ought to get the author the real story of Nonames mistakes that got him injured and the real story about his captivity.
***************************************************************
They were beyond mistakes. They were actions resulting from his incompetence as an aviator, his general stupidity and his standard failure to follow instructions and procedure. Patriots should not waste their urine on his grave. He deserves nothing more than to be forgotten.
+1,000, and I'll throw in an NFW for good measure.
If the citation would only be because he was a POW, then theres 590 other released ex POW and a thought to be 2500 missing which at least half are assumed POWs that died in captivity. Better get a lot of medals ready.
