Well that didnt take long. Sundays shooting at a video game tournament held at the Jacksonville Landing is about to be the subject of its first lawsuit as a result of the event. As news4jax.com is reporting . . .
A Florida firm plans to file a lawsuit this week alleging that negligent security contributed to Sundays mass shooting at The Jacksonville Landing.
Morgan & Morgan attorneys Matt Morgan, Tim Moran and James Young declined to name who the defendants would be in the lawsuit, which is expected to be filed in the next few days.
Matt Morgan said his team is representing several victims in the mass shooting, including one who was shot multiple times.
As we reported yesterday, the Jacksonville Landing is a designated gun-free zone. The shooter murdered two people and injured eleven more before killing himself.
Gun rights supporters have long expressed the opinion that venues that bar the lawful carry of firearms should be held responsible when that prohibition results in injury or death.
Business as usual on the security front will no longer be tolerated by Americans, Morgan said. We must demand more from business owners. Its time for business owners and event organizers to step up their game.
Morgan said his firm has been contacted by victims after previous mass shootings but this is the first case theyve decided to get involved in because they believe the attack was preventable.
The attorneys cited a previous shooting outside the Landing in January 2017 and more recent gunfire that actually sent a bullet through the window of their building across the street from the Landing as evidence that such a crime at the venue should have been foreseen.
Well be watching this one. So should you.
Make them responsible since they declared it a gun-free zone. Actions have consequences and if they want gun free, they need to provide adequate security.
Outstanding.
Yep, if you deny me the right to defend myself, then you assume the responsibility to protect me.
Morgan&Morgan, I am not surprised one bit. I figure they want to legalize pot in order to open up new revenue since then pot would be a “medicine” they could sue over. Meh, vultures.
“Morgan said his firm has been contacted by victims after previous mass shootings but this is the first case theyve decided to get involved in because they believe the attack was preventable.”
Filthy ambulance chasers. They decided to get involved because they figure there is enough insurance money to make it worth their while.
Gun Free Zone and Security Free Zone
By declaring “gun free” zones, does a commercial establishment, which is open to the public, undertake the duty to provide reasonable security from foreseeable risks?
“Make them responsible since they declared it a gun-free zone. “
I don’t have all the details ....
Did this happen in a ‘bar’? If so, FL law forbids CC in:
“Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose;”
“Yep, if you deny me the right to defend myself, then you assume the responsibility to protect me. “
You are not forced to enter.
I guess the ambulance-chasers have figured out they ain’t getting the “civil action for self-defense” racket back.
Bravo!
And they are not forced to disarm me.
I live in Jacksonville and I can’t stand these guys - or any of their ilk. It makes me sick how much they profit off the misery of others.
Seems to me that if you knowingly enter a gun-free business, you’re essentially acceding to their terms.
That’s why I don’t patronize such establishments.

Even maggots have a place in the ecosystem.
Have you ever actually TRIED to sue a doctor?
Since it’s posted as a “gun free” zone, if it actually is, there’s a false sense of security inferred to some naive, gullible patrons that they’re safe from guns and gun violence there.
And the murderer took advantage of the no guns “policy”to kill.
Additionally, theres evidence of shooting in the area too.
This will be a fun case.
They’s plenty of ‘em here in Louisiana, too.
Morgan and Morgan bosses are very very left wing lawyers.
So left wing, they think Debbie Wasserman Schultz is too conservative. They cannot stand her.
I am not kidding.
I work in the insurance defense industry and Morgan & Morgan are notorious bottom-feeders. While I agree in principle that, “gun free zones,” should be held accountable for impeding the right to self-defense, I’m under no illusion that M&M wouldn’t be going after the firearm manufacturer or dealer if they thought those paths were more lucrative. In the end, they’ll skim 33% from their clients.
