TARBORO, N.C. (KLFY) -- Parents of a fifth grader are concerned after their child was punished for referring to his teacher as "ma'am."
Teretha Wilson said she noticed something was wrong Tuesday when her 10-year old son Tamarion got off the school bus from North East Carolina Preparatory School.
"I asked him what happened. He said he got in trouble for saying 'yes ma'am'," explained Wilson. Confused by his response, Tamarion pulled out a sheet of paper with the word "ma'am" written on it four times per line on both sides. He says his teacher told him to write the word on the sheet because he kept referring to her as "ma'am" despite her instruction not to.
As part of his punishment, Tamarion had to have the paper signed by a parent. "He had a look on his face of disappointment, shame," said his father, McArthur Bryant.
Wilson and Bryant said their children were taught to refer to elders as "ma'am" and "sir," and that Tamarion was not intending to be disrespectful.
"At the end of the day as a father, to feel kind of responsible for that...knowing that I have been raising him and doing the best that I can, it's not acceptable," said Bryant.

Another “teacher” who should be nowhere near children.
Didn’t notice in the article what this so-called teacher wants to be called, or what the specific objection to “ma’am” was.
Shoulda just called her a hoe or beotch .....much more acceptable these days.
We’ve got to get the public schools back under control....right now, they’re evil brain washing centers and killing fields.

Our property taxes have more than doubled in just the last 4 years. Our public schools are now receiving more than 3 times per student in inflations adjusted dollars than what they were when my wife and I were kids. Yet our liberal State Supreme Court decided that schools were still not receiving enough funds and began charging the legislature $100,000 per day in “contempt” fines. While more and more money has been thrown at public schools the quality of education continues on a downward spiral.
And then we get stories like this one that tell us the primary reason why. Liberal teachers who are not worth the ink that is written on their diplomas are pushing leftist nonsense instead of teaching the basics of education. It is long past time that the government began hiring private enterprise to run schools. Our public school system has devolved into something that is a bizarre distortion of what they should be.
Teachers like the one featured in this story have no business even being near children.
Then just start addressing her as b*tch.
Where is the CONSERVATIVE flavor ACLU to sue this school district for abusing a 10 year old?
Prepare. Arm yourself. Devise a water supply, even if it means moving. Canned food, dried food, coffee, basic medicines, ammo, ammo, ammo, ammo. Find good people and talk things through. And ammo.

We have so many teachers and other school staff that are not fit to be supervising children.
I use the term, “There’s a sickness in the land.”, and I use it for a damned good reason.

It’s traditional in the South address to your elders this way. Maybe the teacher is hung up about the Confederacy, racism, or something from bygone days. Anyway, todays liberals don’t know the meaning of RESPECT. Everything offends them.
In fairness to the other side, the manly gender often said things like: “wham, bam, thank you ma’m” back in the bygone days. It was concise, to the point, and non-ethnic. I’ll let you decide if they were rapists, racists, homophobic, or just plain disrespectful of the opposite sex.
Maybe it was the uncontrolled violence, lust, or “reefer madness” of the day that pushed them to use such terminology. I don’t know, but our elders (and a few bikers) expected to be treated with respect or we got our a$$ whooped. So we learned to show a little respect while in the public eye to avoid any misunderstandings. Too bad liberals can’t understand this. /s
