A Union Mine High School student is facing battery charges after an altercation in her classroom over a Donald Trump Make America Great Again campaign hat.
The teacher is seen trying to subdue fired-up 17-year-old senior Jo-Ann Butler, after she became enraged at a classmate for wearing the Make America Great Again hat. She grabbed the hat off his head.
Thats a racist and hateful symbol, Butler said.
She is now facing two counts of battery, one against her classmate and one against her teacher who deputies say she slapped, as he escorted her from the room.
Butler says she made the scene to express her political feelings.
Maybe just wake people up in some type of way, because its not cool the environment our classroom is in, Butler said.
Her father says he does not approve of the way she behaved in class.
Wasnt handled the way Id like it, Chis Butler said.
Now hes faced with the legal impact of his daughters now alleged criminal act. All centered around the political divide across the country.
I dont agree with grabbing someones hat and verbally talking to them in that way, Chris Butler said. But as far as the issue being brought up, maybe this is something that needs to be brought up.
The El Dorado Union High School Districts clothing policy does allow students to wear political symbols.
A statement released by the district reads:
student and staff safety is our highest priority and the UMHS administration will continue to cooperate with the El Dorado County Sheriffs Office as the incident is being investigated.
Besides her arrest, Jo-Ann Butler has been suspended from school for a week. The El Dorado County District Attorney will likely decide later this week whether she will be formally charged.

MAGA hats are not hateful. You have to twist that around and around around to get there. The MAGA people won one election and their platform is successful, for all Americans.
Listen, as parent reactions go to this kind of thing, I dont think the father did half bad
This story highlights what is wrong with the left. They feel it is ok, even necessary, to violate law, assault and commit battery because they disagree with someone’s point of view.
“I can steal your stuff. It’s my Constitutional right under the First Amendment.”
Hope Daddy goes broke for not raising his child properly and may she never get a decent job with that record.
I disagree with the fact that it is a “campaign” hat as if the campaign is long over). I see it more as an ongoing sign of patriotism.
Thanks for sharing this article.
someone needs to pop that bytch right quick ..
Glad this little twit will get to express her political feelings in court, hopefully costing her dad some big lawyer bucks.
Reverse it. If a conservative snatched a racist Obama hat off a black kid’s head it would be assault AND a hate crime.
Seems like a reach just to line up any pajama boy to take her to the prom next spring. At least she got an early start.
May have made her bitter.
So, in their minds, “Make America Great Again” is a racist and hateful symbol. I’m examining the words, and don’t come to that conclusion. Perhaps these leftists want America to become a $hithole, and oppose Trump who is preventing that.
She has all the makings of a disgruntled Democrat. That’s no way to go through life, chickie.
So theft is a political statement???
It is still at least a tort battery and trespass, before adding on anything that might be criminal in the jurisdiction.
I'm sure they assumed that everyone would be wearing "F-Trump" tee-shirts, "Pride" gear, and "We Are All Immigrants" items...who knew that political symbols also meant pro-Trump, conservative messages?
Wow.
Another obvious social outcast acting out.
Who’d a thunk?
Considering it’s California, I’m surprised she’s being brought to justice for her criminal behavior.
Why not just make Trump supporters wear some form of identification on their clothing.........oh, wait. I’ve seen that movie already.
