It happened Saturday night when a Chevy Suburban driven by Cara Selby broke down just a block away from her home in Cortland, Indiana, officials said.
Selby was throwing a slumber party for her daughter. When the teens at the sleepover came out to help push Selby’s car back home, another vehicle hit them from behind, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said.
Killed were: Nevaeh Law, 14; Jenna A. Helton, 14; Brittany Watson, 15; and Martin Martinez, 16. Four others were hurt, including Selby’s daughter.
The crash is still under investigation and the driver of the SUV — a 24-year-old woman — hasn’t yet been charged

Looking at the cell phone? Speeding around a blind corner?
Otherwise nothing here makes sense. Headlights would have seen the car from far back. Hazard lights would have alerted the other driver from maybe even further.

The SUV plowed into NO one.
Someone behind the wheel of a SUV plowed into a bunch of people.
SUV’s are no more guilty of any tragedy than are gun owners. It takes a human in charge of them in both cases.
Then don't buy one. I have had several and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED them. Freaking LOVED them. So much fun.
As for the accident, would things have been different if the vehicle had been a full sized car, van, truck? Unfortunately bad things happen. Very sad.

Maybe the Martin boy was an onlooker who jumped in to help.
Wonder what gender the 4 injured teens were.
Interesting that most stories (that I have seen) are posting pictures of the three dead girls and not the dead boy.

Many people in the back pushing the vehicle. A good chance they were not seen. We do not even know if the lights were on in the stalled vehicle.
I noticed that too. Figured I was just out of step with today’s trends.
Okay, just found a story that had all of the injured as girls.
I am guessing that Martin was probably a good Samaritan that stopped to help.
So sad.
Maybe Martin is just gay.
Their Bodies could have easily blocked the Tail-lights of the Vehicle they were pushing.
If so, the Car coming up from behind may have not seen the Tail-lights.
Earlier this year we bought a Yukon Denali and it’s a big comfy boat but it handles great, it does great offroad, it can pull a horse trailer, and after a few modifications it gets great mileage!
It would be awful in the city, but out here it’s great!
