It's too bad even one of those big Roman manor houses wasn't taken over and fortified by the invading barbarian a-holes (they are most of my ancestral lines from the past 1500 years or so, it's okay to hit your own people), yet, alas, all of them wound up burned, or reused as barns and then burned, or pulled apart for building materials, other than the roof tiles apparently, those are generally found in piles -- and then burned. Nearby Broughton Castle is not bad though -- the freakin' moat is three acres, they weren't messin' around.
