In the hysteria about 3D printed guns, the words unlicensed and untraceable are thrown about promiscuously and irresponsibly. They are used to imply disaster is upon us, that some new scary threshold has been breached.
They are scare tactics based on ignorance. Most of the 400 million plus firearms in the United States are unlicensed (unregistered) and untraceable. It has been that way for decades, hundreds of years. It has not made a significant difference in the crime rate. It will not make a significant difference in the future. Separate from gun licensing, there are background checks at retail purchase for most guns in the United States. Only a few states require background checks on private sales of guns. Background checks do not make a difference.
Unlicensed and untraceable is scary only if you think most guns are licensed (registered) and that traceability has anything to do with preventing crime.
National registration of guns has been illegal for decades. Only a few authoritarian states require registration of firearms. Those states are California, Hawaii, Maryland, and New York. The registration schemes in Hawaii and California apply to all guns. The requirements for registration of long guns are fairly recent. Most guns that were unregistered before registration was required remain unregistered, and are grandfathered in. New York required registration of handguns only. Recently they required registration of some semi-automatic rifles. The law has been ignored by over 80% of the people affected.

This, too, was part of the Founder’s intent.
The only reason for gun registries is to aid in confiscation.
“Shall Not Be Infringed.”
The original purchaser of the gun may get recorded on an ATF Form 4473.
When he privately sells his guns later, or passes them on to his kids, nephews and nieces, there will be no records at all. This is what worries the Left. In my state, the law is explicit that there is no paperwork requirement when transferring ownership of a firearm between spouses, or to child or grandchild.
We won't really know how it works, unless it's passed...
AMEN
That is the real “loophole” that anti-gunners are trying to plug by forcing ALL transfers through an FFL.
The ONLY reason for registration is eventual confiscation.
People need to read history books on what a civil war and government cause insurrections actually are. The government employees and politicians, their children even their pets are all targets for being tortured to death. The savagery and ugliness is beyond anything Hollywood would dare put out.
The second Amendment is a doctrine that tells the US government that they may not infringe on our God given right to protect our lives and property. Just thought I'd clear that up.
But your sentiment is correct. The government should have no control over what form that protection takes.
Just buy weapons made before 1898. Many are serviceable and excellent weapons that are not registered or traceable.
Then assigned IRS Personal Property Inventory Squads will be the first to...shall we say...suffer the ills of their lack of vision.
Which is why I am NOT looking forward to it. I'll protect my family, but I won't enjoy it.
if cash is elimited, they can shut off your bank account with the flip of a switch until you turn in all of your guns. We do not want this to happen.
The author makes his point over and over again. The article is very poorly written. I hope he didn’t spend four years in college to learn how to write like that.
I always wondered what the real number is. I think 400 million is less than half. Anyone have an idea?
The problem is not guns. It’s individuals whose “value systems” include the right to unjustly kill innocent people. These “value systems” are what you get when you remove the influence of Christianity/Judaism, destroy the family, and pour nihilistic ideas into the heads of schoolchildren.
WINNING
I assume unlicensed means the owner is not licensed to carry. What does unregistered mean? Where do you register a gun, with whom and why?
And this is bad? It makes it that much harder for liberals to confiscate!
