In an extraordinary 11-page written statement (see official English text below), Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, 77, claims that Pope Francis knew about strict canonical sanctions imposed on McCarrick by Pope Benedict XVI but chose to repeal them.

In his testimony, dated August 22, Archbishop Viganò, who served as apostolic nuncio in Washington D.C. from 2011-2016, states that in the late 2000s, Benedict had “imposed on Cardinal McCarrick sanctions similar to those now imposed on him by Pope Francis,” and that Viganò personally spoke with Francis about the gravity of McCarrick’s abuse soon after his election in 2013....

Viganò said the second reason he chose to write his testimony is “to discharge my conscience before God of my responsibilities as bishop of the universal Church. I am an old man and I want to present myself to God with clean conscience.”"

Good for him.

However Canon law may not agree with him.

Whether Canon law agrees with God is another matter

Sure, he’s only 91. Why let him rest or enjoy his retirement? Make him work!

Maybe someone will do the same to you if you live to 91. Here, grab a mop! Get to work!

Will the marxist resign from the job that he is not suited for? If he has a conscience. The darling of the left, the pro gay, pro abortion pope needs to resign. I doubt he will.

It’s hard to imagine someone so drunk on power ever resigning, yet it’s almost equally hard to imagine someone whose credibility is so shot to hell continuing as pope either. Almost seems like one of those ‘unstoppable force meets immovable object’ moments.

A widely respected figure, Archbishop Vigano says his “conscience dictates” that the truth be known as “the corruption has reached the very top of the Church’s hierarchy.” He ends his testimony by calling on Pope Francis and all of those implicated in the cover up of McCarrick’s abuse to resign.

In response, Pope Francis pointed out that countering articles on Free Republic show that abuse is not restricted to the Roman Catholic Church. "Everybody did it" he exclaimed," and speculated that the latest scandal took away the focus from the larger crises of man-made Climate Change, and denial of it. "We may have kept some things in the closest, but as my over 38,000 word encyclical LAUDATO SI’ attests, I have not refrained from warning of this gravest danger."

The pope also speculated that the problem of sexual abuse may be related to Climate Change.

You need to lay off the LSD.

A 91 year old isn’t warming up in the bullpen as a relief-pope. No one is “bringing” back Benedict like he’s a rested Michael Jordan. It’s actually pretty messed up for you to even be wanting that of a 91 year old.

Many Prayers are needed for the Catholic Church.

Pray for God's Will rather than your personal, ill-conceived notion.

“Archbishop Vigano says his “conscience dictates” that the truth be known as “the corruption has reached the very top of the Church’s hierarchy.”

Is he saying that Bergoglio is a sodomite?

He doesn’t seem to be affirming knowledge of anything in that department—but that Francis is knowingly let sodomites run around.
