John McCain, the longtime senator and 2008 GOP presidential candidate who refused to leave fellow prisoners of war behind to escape years of torture in Vietnam, and whose maverick streak as Arizonas senior statesman at times frustrated fellow Republicans and confounded President Donald Trump, has died, his family confirmed in a statement Saturday.
He was 81and had been diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017.
McCain had decided to discontinue medical treatment for the glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family announced on Aug. 24. He had surpassed expectations for his survival, but "the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the statement said.

Just realized they are going to put Cindy McCain in as replacement with the backing of all the RINO GOPers Arizona forced in to replace all the AZ Tea Partiers of years past.
Not a happy day.
He wanted Joe Lieberman for his VP. His campaign manager wouldn’t go for that.
Maybe you should thank him.
Respectfully, you have zero class for posting this. Im no fan of McCain, but these posts are classless.
That’s what I said yesterday, I hope he makes amends with God for all the disgusting things he allowed to happen to the Palin family, his hired goons trashing her family..how he said he regretted ever picking her..how he spread around that phony baloney dossier to everyone to screw President Trump..I hope he makes peace with the Lord
God grant peace to his soul.
He must have been on life support for a long time to die this quickly after being removed.
Good. A vile man and certainly not a patriot.
That was fast.
Maybe it’s the cynic in me, but I’m wondering if it got too difficult to carry on the charade, so they made the announcement about ceasing treatment yesterday so they could get him out of the basement fridge today.
But that’s just me...
GOODBYE AND HOORAY!
Under different circumstances I would have used this post to express my thanks and gratitude for a honorable man.
Finally admitted it huh?
I guess the corpse was stinking up the place too much to continue to play “Weekend at Bernies”.
Out of respect for those who are grieving, I’ll avoid negative comments until after his funeral.
Outstanding reply. T Y 4posting!
O God of spirits and of all flesh,
You have trampled down death
and have abolished
the power of the devil,
giving life to Your world.
Give rest to the soul
of Your departed servant John
in a place of light,
in a place of repose,
in a place of refreshment,
where there is no pain,
sorrow, and suffering.
As a good and loving God,
forgive every sin he has committed
in thought, word or deed,
for there is no one who lives
and is sinless.
You alone are without sin.
is an everlasting righteousness,
and Your word is truth.
For You are the resurrection,
and the repose of Your departed servant John
Christ our God,
and to You we give glory,
with Your eternal Father
and Your all holy,
good and life-giving Spirit,
now and forever and to the ages of ages.
I’d be more inclined to agree about Palin if McTurd hadn’t expressed regret about it later. But I still have my McCain-Palin sign and a couple of buttons and like the Nixon ones, I’ll keep them. Not because of McCain.
I don’t have to say anything. He’s being judged.
At least I got to hear Levin speak on Watter’s World before it was announced. Shoot, Saturday night Fox News is good TV viewing. Not tonight.
