A Hazleton man died Thursday morning after trying to drive his motorcycle between two trucks on Route 61 in Schuylkill County, according to state police. Rafael Mateo, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:53 a.m. crash in New Castle Township, police said.
According to state police, Mateo was driving south in the passing lane when he approached a tractor trailer that was passing a dump truck. He shifted into the right lane, cutting off another motorist, before heading toward the center line and trying to "thread the needle" between the tractor trailer and dump truck, police said.
The motorcycle struck a corner of the dump truck, knocking Mateo from the bike and causing the bike to tumble down the center lane and eventually collide with a third vehicle, police said.
Although Mateo wasn't cited, he would have been charged with careless driving, according to the police report.
Police said they subsequently learned Mateo did not have a valid driver's license, and the 2007 Suzuki 750cc motorcycle he was riding was listed as stolen from Virginia. Mateo was wearing a helmet, police said.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Wonder if they also learned that he did not have a valid immigration status?

Yes that struck me too. He’s dead, so how do you cite someone legally speaking, if he’s dead?
What do you do when the car ahead of you passes another car? You drive between them, of course. This is probably why he failed his driving test.
