It seems there is less and less common ground in discourse in America anymore as the constantly redrawn battle lines move farther and farther apart, taking with them even the folks on both fringes, severely narrowing the space for what have heretofore been known as “moderates.”
With the advent of the militant left, Maxine Waters et al and Andrew Cuomo’s America “was never that great” comment, the lines change again, as even would-be liberals cannot countenance the harassing of families having dinner in a public place or the fallacy that the nation that has been the savior of freedom on Planet Earth, and has lead the world in technology, military power, industrial strength and personal liberty for over two centuries, is not and “was never that great.”

I just do not see it. They are committed socialist revolutionaries who do not hold the slightest love for anything the nation was built on. They truly despise every tradition and touchstone.
Could you see yourself becoming ok with globalism, open borders, transexuals in schools, homo scout leaders, wiccan chaplains, giving up our guns, abortion, and a carbon tax?
No? Imagine that, then explain to me how you imagine THEY would suddenly treasure the meaning of Thanksgiving, accept Christians as neighbors and friends, how they would decide we need limits on third world immigration, that guns should not be restricted, etc?

This time the division is the result of the Radical Left trying to kill our country and reconstitute it as a different form of government. And, let me hasten to add, traditional Americans have no place in their new country.
The "militant Left" as Charlie call it exists in a parallel reality (one in which morality is relative, atheism is demanded, fluid gender and perverse sexual proclivity is celebrated, and one in which all who support the U.S.A. and its traditions are despised).
Can anyone see a way out of that kind of division?
I am reminded of the movie "Independence Day" when President Whitman asked the alien, "What do you want us to do?" and the alien answered "Die, die...we want you to die."
