Rock legend Steven Tyler has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the White House demanding that President Trump stop playing Aerosmith songs at his rallies.
Tylers attorney, Dina LaPolt, sent the letter after Trumps Tuesday night rally in West Virginia, as first reported by Variety. The bands Livin on the Edge played as Trump supporters entered the Charleston Civic Center.
LaPolts letter, a copy of which was obtained by Variety, notes that Trump was previously asked to stop using Aerosmith songs twice during his campaign.
Mr. Trump is creating the false impression that our client has given his consent for the use of his music, and even that he endorses the presidency of Mr. Trump, the letter reads.
LaPolt writes that Aerosmith fans have mistakenly believed that Tyler endorses Trumps presidency and expressed as much on social media, and says that Trumps use of the song is a violation of the Lanham Act.
LaPolt said in the first two cease-and-desist letters, which were related to Trumps use of Dream On, that the issue was neither personal nor political, but an issue of copyright. Tyler is a registered Republican.
Trump said in 2015 that he had found a better song to play instead of Dream On, and boasted that the scandal gave Tyler more publicity than hes gotten in 10 years.
A number of musical artists have requested that Trump not play their songs at public events, including R.E.M., Twisted Sister and Elton John.
Fair use - F off Steven
Be a shame if someone started giving away Aerosmith digital CD files for free...
The hatred has taken over the “minds” of these people. They are unable to function as normal humans.
They need to be shipped to Mars where they can start up a colony of leftists and eat potatoes fertilized by poop.
When I look at that ugly lady he looks like a big set of lips on a skinny face. It reminds me of the Rolling Stones emblem.
Steven Tyler is a twisted sister who’s REM eye movements tell us that he is a psychotic, brain dead, drug user who needs a John to protect him when he becomes rocket man.
Pay the ASCAP fees.
Then tell Steven to suck wind.
Mr. Trump paid for the use of the song, in accordance to the fair use laws.
suck it aerosmith... and walk away...
I’m not sure that Tyler has the ability to demand such.
Since the Trump rallies are not entered by fee, I don’t see where there is an ASCAP issue concerning royalty payments.
It’s certainly not a copyright violation as I’m sure they are using legitimate copies.
So maybe some lawyer can explain to me where Tyler has a leg to stand on.
Doesn't stop the artist from suing Trump claiming false endorsement.
Hey Steve, please stop doing your Maxine Waters imitation.
Not applicable here.
Another druggie speaks his mind, which was blown decades ago.
Yep
Why would Trump want to use Arrowsmith anyway? I’m sure that there are a boatload of country and western artists who would be thrilled to let Trump use their work.
Not really. It's called false endorsement and is prohibited by 15 U.S. Code § 1125.
You know that liver-lipped dicksack turned 70 this year? Still strutting around like he’s 20.
Actually, Trump - like anybody else - pays the licensing fees to the Performance Rights Organization (ASCAP, BMI or SESAC) and that money is paid to the publisher and the writers. Tyler’s getting paid, but the “cease and desist” letters are purely PR for him.
This liver lipped creep is still alive.... never could stand the man.
It's the only reason I would like Tyler because I would indicate he is a smart guy not just a typically brain dead rocker.
