Cohen testifies Trump told him to commit crime by paying off women

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen testified on Tuesday that Trump had directed him to commit a crime by arranging payments ahead of the 2016 presidential election to silence two women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump.

Cohen, 51, made the statements as he pleaded guilty to eight criminal charges in federal court in Manhattan, including tax evasion, bank fraud and campaign finance violations.

Cohen did not name Trump in court, but his lawyer, Lanny Davis, said afterward that he was referring to the president.

“Today he (Cohen) stood up and testified under oath that Donald Trump directed him to commit a crime by making payments to two women for the principal purpose of influencing an election,” Davis said in a statement.

“If those payments were a crime for Michael Cohen, then why wouldn’t they be a crime for Donald Trump?” Davis said.

The two payments were intended to silence two women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump and were made prior to the 2016 presidential election. One was for $130,000 given to adult-film star Stormy Daniels. The other for $150,000 related to former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

“Time for Trump to take off the gloves and go after some rats.”

If there’s a legitimate case, and enough evidence, against Clintons and their cronies regarding pedophelia, Pizzagate, sex trafficking, Lolita express, etc, NOW is the time to get that ball rolling. If sessions won’t do it, then the U.S. Marshals Office can take over. (Do they have a legal department?)

Don't search the exact title. Just pick some key words in the title, such as, "paying off" "pay off."

I don't see similar articles or even same article duplicate as a bad thing. I can't read every post all day and night. If it's important, it increases my chance of seeing it.

“Cohen testifies Trump told him to commit crime by paying off women”

Right after he testified that Trump DIDN’T tell him to pay off women.

Could he possibly be lying? Let me think...

“I’m going to love the moment the President pardons Manafort and Cohen hears the news while serving his prison sentence”

Disregarding the politics, if Manafort and Cohen were guilty of financial crimes, why should they be pardoned?

How do you “disregard the politics” of a political witch hunt?

“Cohen testifies Trump told him to commit crime by paying off women”

Any lawyers out there that can name for me the legal statute that was violated here? Cohen pays out of his own pocket, Trump reimburses him, where’s the crime and why would Cohen think it was a crime? This is utterly ludicrous.

Thanks for the explanation. These issues are interesting to speculate about, but in reality, the deal as it stands is in Choen’s best interest as it locks in the reduced jail time for all the crimes he committed. I suppose the admonition “don’t do the crime unless you are willing to do the time” is applicable here.

Alleged mistresses Stormy and the playboy bunny seem to be guilty of extortion. Also, what happened to attorney-client privilege when it comes to Cohen? To your question, a billionaire paying money in return for NDA from alleged mistresses can’t be illegal. Too many billionaires would be in jail if it were.

There is NO CRIME here. Trump re-imbursed his own corporation from his own personal funds. Campaign funds were NEVER USED for this. NEVER.

Cohen plead guilty to 2 crimes he did not commit because Mueller needs to pretend these are crimes. It won’t hold up under scrutiny. Trump did not use campaign money at any time for these payments. His private corporation made the initial payments and he reimbursed his corporation from his own private funds.

Lies, and damn lies. Counts 7 & 8 are not crimes, not even just because Cohen plead guilty to them.

Mark Levin made it crystal clear tonight that, while the payments were made to influence the campaign, they are not illegal payments. Therefore, no crime.

The MSM wants you to think a candidate cannot influence his own campaign. Levin made it clear that candidates continually influence their own campaign. That is part of campaigning. He said there are legal ways to influence your campaign and illegal ways. The means and methods used to get non-disclosure agreements from 2 women, so as to not have that sully the campaign, was perfectly legal per Mark Levin.

Once again, MSM=fake news. It is all they have, since President Trump has not committed a single crime or campaign violation. Trump has no legal exposure here. He can’t be touched.

Of course the Commie Rats in the House could try to use these lies to stir up impeachment proceedings, but that is not going to work. I pray the Rats attempt to impeach Trump. It would guaranteed GOP presidents and Congressional majorities for the next 12 years.

Don’t worry. AG Jeff Sessions will name a special counsel to investigate Hilary email/FISA abuse/unmasking/FBI-DOJ corruption/leaks to MSM any day now. Jeff Sessions is all over this. He is like a pit bull at the end of a leash.

“How do you “disregard the politics” of a political witch hunt?”

Did those guys break laws? Regardless of the larger environment, I don’t think lawbreaking without extenuating circumstances should be excused. If they broke laws to enrich themselves, there aren’t extenuating circumstances.

If Trump pardons them it will be interesting to hear his justification.
