A former Nazi SS labor camp guard was deported from his home in Queens, N.Y., to Germany, the White House announced in a statement early Tuesday morning.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents implemented a 2004 deportation order against Jakiw Palij, who immigrated to the United States in 1949 and became a citizen in 1957 after concealing his Nazi background, the statement read.

I take no pride and do not gloat in this bull shit.
Well said.
My apologies if you think I was putting words in your mouth. I understand your point. I was just adding to the conversation.
I understand what you are saying. However, I thought the SS was reserved for the elite soldiers that were part of the Hitler youth etc. The SS were not the “common soldier” that got forcibly drafted and were told to fight or be shot. The SS made up a small percentage of the Nazi forces.
I’m not going to excuse what the Bolshevik hordes did to German civilians, but the Nazi treatment of the eastern Slavs (Not to mention the Jews) was so horrific that I don’t shed too many tears about it.
Only to have the taking out of the old Soviet Union delayed until a certain Ronald W. Reagan came into the White House.
“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
When Reagan visited the cemetery at Bitburg there was a huge ballyho because there were SS war dead buried there, but many or most of them fell under the criminal charges exemption.
They lied? Who woulda thunk it? :P
Deportation and trial are necessary. Should have happened 14 years ago when other survivors were still alive. No doubt the horrors still resonate In the minds of many.
The guy was 16 for Christ’s sake. 6 million Poles were murdered during the occupation about half were jews. Unbelievable brutality by both Germans and Russians. Get drafted or die...what would we have done?
I did not realize that the SS were drafted. I thought they were all supposed to be part of the master race, ie Aryan decent, blond hair, blue eyed. Maybe I have seen too many Hollywood movies.
FYI, my lineage is German, Polish and Belgium. They all emigrated here in they late 19th century through Ellis Island.

Unlike Ukrainians, not one single Pole served as a guard at the death camps. But idiots still insist on using the term Polish Death Camps.
By the end of the war there were numerous SS Divisions that weren't even made up of Germans -- 5th SS Wiking made of Scandinavians, 13th SS Handschar and 23rd Kama (Croatians), 23rd Landsturm Nederland (Dutch), several SS Cossack Regiments, 25th and 26 Hungarian, 29th SS Italia, to name just a handful. The idea was that they'd be made up of National Socialism true believers serving the unified Reich, although in reality I'm sure many were pressed into service to make up the numbers. One of the last units to hold out in Berlin was the 33rd SS Division Charlemagne, comprised of Frenchmen, alongside SS Nordland, another Scandinavian unit that had originally been part of SS Wiking but was separated into a new division.
Because our much vaunted 'intelligence' people were too busy spying on American citizens and selling out to the MSM for cash and favors?

I believe Germany refused to take him back. Another Trump accomplishment.
> I’ve sometimes pondered the general subject of culpability...*moral* culpability...of individuals like German soldiers/guards during WWII. <
That would make an interesting topic in a law school or ethics class.
Follow orders, and risk execution as a war criminal.
Don’t follow orders, and risk execution as a traitor.
It’s also worth noting that the private soldier is also flying blind, so to speak. He’s probably a kid who has been fed all sorts of racial nonsense and propaganda. He’s at the point where he thinks 1+1=3.
Perhaps it should all come down to command authority, and brutality. The camp commandants gave the orders, and were quite brutal. No one questions that they deserved to be executed after the war.
But what about the guard who never brutalized an inmate, but who nevertheless murdered children day after day, year after year?
Should he be hanged? Tough question, as he was in that no-win situation. If I were the judge, I wouldn’t sentence him to death. but I wouldn’t give him a slap on the wrist either. 10 years in prison, maybe. And he serves every day.
woodbutcher1963, you are correct. Those in the SS were volunteers and were ‘vetted,’ prior to being admitted into that part of the Service. He was not just dumped into that part of the Service. And 91 or 101, he lied on his papers getting into the USA. I have no dog in this fight; if he were a 91 creature from Mars I’d still have this opinion. **A side point, personnel who were with us (the Allies), including US soldiers, did vicious and evil things during and after the war and we should have/should be held/holding them accountable. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

It is estimated that at 3.3 million Soviet POWs died in Nazi custody, out of 5.7 million
