A research project by an international Catholic think tank, to be launched today by Mary McAleese, is to challenge the theological evidence for church teaching that homosexual acts are "intrinsically disorder". Plans for the study by Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research will be unveiled at Trinity College by McAleese, a former president and an outspoken critic of the Vatican. The institute will call on Pope Francis to question official church teaching on same-sex relationships. "I am hoping the project will advance an intelligent and scholarly debate about the warped, damaging, unchristian, unscientific, fake gender ideology which currently underpins Catholic teaching on LGBTI issues," McAleese told the Sunday Times.
A spokeswoman for the Institute said that tomorrow's event would address "the exclusion of gay and lesbian families from the World Meeting of Families" which it argues furthers the church's "marginalisation and demonization and" of LGBT Catholics and their relationships. The launch takes place a day before the World Meeting of Families opens in Dublin's RDS. The week culminates in a visit by Pope Francis. On Sunday, he will say mass for up to 500,00 people in the Phoenix park. The Wijngaards research will provide a critical evaluation of the arguments behind official Catholic teaching which dates from 1986 Vatican document Homosexualitatis Problema, according to Luca Badini Confalonieri, director of research at the Institute.
"Since [then], however, biology and genetics have made some progress towards understanding the causes of homosexuality. The same can be said of biblical studies, on what the Bible affirms with regard to the meanings purposes of human sexuality and sexual diversity," writes Confalonari in a preliminary paper on the research . "The question of homosexual acts is sometimes regarded as settled from the earliest days of Christianity...A process of debate and consultation would be tantamount to putting this in doubt and so, no such process has been initiated or encouraged by the Vatican. The reports aims at filling that gap." Confalonieri said the argument in the Vatican document that homosexual acts were "intrinsically disordered" was based on a belief that biological procreation was an "essential and indispensable finality" of each act of sexual intercourse. This was based on a "mistaken biological "fact" that each and every act of sexual intercourse has a procreative "finality" and "significance".
"The teaching that same-sex sexual acts are "intrinsically evil" always and everywhere is not reevealed in the Bible," he said. "Nor has it ever been shown to be essential for the truth of the Christian revelation. Accordingly, it cannot become the object of an infallible definition.
pretty simple. Leviticus. Death penalty.
So, they aren’t going to actually read the Bible, then.
Ha!
Let’s be honest, the Bible is against pretty much everything somewhere. With homosexuality you don’t even have to get past your first coffee break.
Revision Denied.
Y’know... except for where it actually says “homosexuality is bad” in the Bible.
Funny how they’ve evolved their argument over the years.
“Well JESUS never said homosexuality was bad so it’s perfectly ok”
“Those parts in the Bible that say homosexuality is wrong don’t really mean “homosexuality” it’s just an old testament issue like dieting laws that we don’t follow either”
And now we’re finally at the point of “God’s word doesn’t mean anything because we’re smarter than God.”
Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed to make room for more lucrative taxable income.
Be fruitful and multiply.
I think the Biblical term is that such acts are an “abomination.”
In order to advance the argument that the catechism is wrong in its teaching that homosexuality is intrinsically disordered Humanae Vitae must be scuttled. The sex act must be seen as being complete even if the “natural” end is non-procreative. Rather than being an exceptional end caused by non-deliberate sterility or natural period of non fertility it must be argued that sterile sex is natural. This would mean the unitive aspect stands alone.
Maybe God condemned Sodom and Gomorrah to put up a strip mall. Eminent Domain?
Do research? Sounds like the conclusion of this study has already been decided.
The Catholic Church’s failure to excommunicate these people proves how corrupt it is.
Quote(official Catholic teaching which dates from 1986 Vatican document Homosexualitatis Problema)...
Problema indeed..
“For their women exchanged their natural function for an unnatural and abnormal one,
And the men also turned from natural relations with women and were set ablaze (burning out, consumed) with lust for one anothermen committing shameful acts with men and suffering in their own bodies and personalities the inevitable consequences and penalty of their wrong-doing and going astray, which was [their] fitting retribution.”
(New Testament, Romans 1:26,27 Amplified Bible)
“[The wicked are sentenced to suffer] just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the adjacent townswhich likewise gave themselves over to impurity and indulged in unnatural vice and sensual perversityare laid out [in plain sight] as an exhibit of perpetual punishment [to warn] of everlasting fire.”
(New Testament, Jude 1:7, Amplified Bible)
Let me guess, this Mary Macaleese is a lesbian or a transgender or a transvestite or a guy that thinks he’s a woman in a man’s body inside a woman’s body or.........
Yup, that ain’t no little ordanace up for discussion when that word is used.
No her son is gay which is pretty much the reason for her activism. Her son who btw acted real shocked when he found out the Catholic Church frowns upon homosexuality.
Debate can strengthens your belief or cause you to learn more about your belief...I welcome sincere discussions of theology, not shut them down.
1 Corinthians 6: Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers
nor men who have sex with men
nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Hand over that grant money!
