President Trump should pick one high profile backstabber each week and make a big show out of taking its security clearance away.
You can have a clearance and not have a "need to know" or affiliation with a program. Often, that results in a "debrief" and removal of the clearance. On SAP programs, you may be "read in" and later "debriefed" off the SAP. Access only when your services are required.
I've been on classified programs since 1991 and have needed a clearance for them. That said, the program requires the project staff to be cleared, but you may never handle actual classified data over the duration of the effort.
Returning to the subject of the thread, the "officials" that are no longer actively in office should have been debriefed on the way out of the job. They have no business continuing to have access and influence based on prior job assignments. Trump is correct in pulling the clearances. They should be debriefed and forbidden access to classified data until such time as they are re-hired and have a "need to know" again.
He is a snake, a politician, and the worst kind of leader any organization can have, let alone the Navy SEALS.
Well said.
Whether former military or not, when your need to know ends your security clearance should end. It should always be based on the needs of the government and this notion of hanging on to them after separation, unless they are definitively useful to the government at a contractors employment is dangerous. Tens of thousands of clearances out there with individuals who have no more need for them.
What is “debriefing,” exactly? It’s not like it removes the memory of what you did/saw/heard. You’ve already signed NDAs and been read into programs and stuff. Is debriefing like reminding you of the NDA?
.....bingo !
It is, your correct ...... your reminded of the NDA and must sign more documents acknowledging the debriefing, turn in of all accountable enterprise type property such as badges, ID’s, thumb drives for two factor access to data and keys to facilities etc ..... They go through a checklist to ensure combinations and codes / biometrics have been erased or changed and .........yer gone with a receipt, a smile and a don’t let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out giggle from the goobermint. Theres more considerations regarding a quick return if your particular “skill sets” are needed as a SME / Legacy Consultant . “Need to Know” is the key.
“What an IDIOT!”. (McRaven)
The way I see it, Trump and/or Mattis are the idiots if they didn’t pulled McRaven’s clearance within 24 hours after that screed. Assign him to a position that doesn’t require clearance. Reduce his rank — and his pay.
If McRaven thinks it’s perfectly fine for an America hater to have access to critical info, then he has discernment issues. We don’t need him “protecting” our country.
This.
Then he should send out a short tweet:
"Admiral McRaven has requested that his clearance be revoked. That was done immediately. Who's next?"
“Shes gonna get it when she is linked to Fusion GPS, Steele (and money), and the DNC.”
We used to sing a song in high school choir: “Dream on, little dreamer, dream on”. I doubt if it’ll never happen as a result of the issues you list.
IF — and that’a a big “if” — she is taken down it’ll be via pedophilia and sex trafficking. And there will have to be videos. Even the DU-level retards would be able to understand something so basic. The other stuff — nobody except wonks like us cares about that.
At some point in time a jury would be involved, and most jurors are idiots. Too many good, smart people find ways to avoid jury duty when we should be doing all we can to help justice. It’s a relatively easy way to make changes.
So why do you need a security clearance when you LEAVE the job?
Trump should grant McRavens wish and revoke his clearance Monday. Then every day yank another clearance.
I think he should start off with major players - like Hillary and Obama.
The left would have an absolute fit and rant, scream, demand impeachment, hold “peaceful protests” with bottle-throwers, chant silly little rhymes, cuddle small furry animals . . you know, their usual nonsense.
THEN start stripping clearances off of everyone else (and I mean EVERYONE). They won’t have enough energy left to do ANYTHING about it and our country will be safer.
You are both correct. I apologize for disrespecting Mattis. I am frustrated with Washington and turned my ire on a good man. He has proved himself an excellent commander, and I know personally that his troops respect himthis is not the case, or even the norm today.
Mattis is by far the best weve had in the position in my lifetime. After thinking about it, I realized hes truly in it deeper than President Trump. He is not surrounded by incompetence; he is surrounded by enemies. The majority of our military and civilian leadership do not want a strong or moral military.
Few are willing to make waves and even fewer real change. I pray we see those changes, but I pray even more for the few decent men fighting to make them. Mattis is very high on that list. I am ashamed of having disparaged him and truly ask that God grant him and our President wisdom and protection.
Mine costs $20,000 every 5 years.
So why do you need a security clearance when you LEAVE the job?
Theres really two scenarios: one youre a cleared contractor in between jobs or recently left the military. It doesnt make sense to redo your investigation to grant the clearance.
The problem is a certain class of elites get consultant positions primarily to maintain their clearance. Its a dirty game and its far too prevalent, but its a tiny percentage of active clearances. Stripping every would do nothing but increase costs and make the investigation backlog impossible.
The FAA was in a bind after 911 because they got cheap and only the cook at the cafeteria had a clearance so his helpers were not allowed in. Maintenance people had to be escorted into areas to do their jobs as clearances had lapsed. Lots of other problems.
correctomundo! there are quite literally millions of Americans with security clearances, pretty soon the ACLU will be suing for everyone to get one, illegals will be handed one when the cross to border. I had TS for thirty years, some of those above, and when I left government service it evaporated. While active, every five years I had to have a reinvestigation to retain my clearances, at a cost of over 20K each. CNN pundits DON’T need security clearances, and I’m damn sure Trump’s never going to ring up Brennan or Clapper for advice. Even if a future president were to want their input on something they had experience with in the past, there’s NO rule that they can’t divulge their past experience to someone with a need to know and the proper authorization. The government can save millions by terminating all these damn clearances, and besides-———Sandy Berger.
Why do these security clearance revocations have to be done by the President?
I know d@@n well it is not his job. Someone beneath him will not do their job and is forcing yet another hit job on him.
Sick of this.
He is constantly forced to take the flak because people won’t do their job.
Guess these ineffective “employees” are waiting for the mid-terms too?
I am disgusted at the continual abuse of this President.
It’s been a long time since I dealt with security clearances but I know that a new BI is run every 5 years at a pretty good cost. Some say $20,000. Times that by even one unnecessary investigation is a lot of money. Talk about government waste!
Take away all clearances when people no longer have a need to know and no one not actually working for the government has a need to know. This should be a law enacted by Congress and not an EO which can be undone.
