IMO, secession is the only peaceful solution. Barring that, there will be another civil war eventually. We have two “tribes” who have radically different ideas about how to live which are completely incompatible with one another and who do not like each other at all.

That would do more to get all humanity focused on just ONE problem, and make most of the other disagreements seem just kind of petty, than almost anything other than a direct intervention by a divine entity.

We were never as together as people like to pretend. It’s a big country with a bunch of regional and cultural subsections, many of whom really don’t like each other. The only thing that’s really changed now is platforms, everybody has enough ways to get their view out that we no longer get to live in ignorance of the others. So we get reminded regularly how goofy “those people” are.

While it appears that the line was crossed in 2009, I believe that actually happened in 2000 when they openly tried to overturn a legitimate election after the fact. From that point on there has been no pretense from the left that they will ever honor any election they lose.
