An individual tree has roots and, of course, it doesnt move. But trees, as a species, do move over time. They migrate in response to environmental challenges, especially climate change. Surprisingly, they dont all go to the Poles, where it is cooler. As it turns out, more of them head west, where it is getting wetter.
Sure, some species, such as evergreens, are heading to the Poles to escape the heat. But others, like certain oaks and maple, are going west in search of rain. For the most part, tree migrations are moisture related, said Songlin Fei, associate professor at Purdues Universitys department of forestry and natural resources, who has studied this phenomenon in recent years. Precipitation has a stronger near-term impact on species shift than temperature.
Fei analyzed the movement of 86 tree species from across the Eastern United States between 1980 and 2015 using using field data obtained from the U.S. Forest Service. He found that 73 percent of tree species shifted to the west, while 62 percent moved poleward.
To be clear, the study focused only on the eastern half the country, meaning tree species didnt move to, for example, California, Oregon, or Washington. In fact, the transition was gradual. Species, on average, moved about 10 miles per decade, or about one county during the study period, Fei said.

NO, they’re expanding westward because of natural climate change that has been happening since the earth has been here
Thank you. You have to find a laugh these days or you will go nuts.
Are they suggesting coconuts migrate? — Monty Python
I thought I saw a hobbit in one of the migrating trees.
I saw a caravan of oak trees leaving Calif heading away from the fires.
Many “educated” people are simply stupid. Take, for instance, those that believe in man made climate change. All those degrees, not an ounce of reality.
Ha, ha... nice.
CLAMS GOT FEET? We’re doomed! (Gawd I miss B.C.)

We’re in west central Florida in a hardwood hammock forest - not a swamp but with oaks, pines, palmettos, etc. also all kinds of critters and birds but no poison oak or ivy. No cottonmouths, rattlesnakes and only two coral snakes in 25 years (they’re territorial and didn’t survive).
Just f’n air potatoes. If there’s no “e” in there just delete mentally, please. “Gardening” is pretty much collecting firewood and clearing out leaves and keeping paths open ... still its paradise. Ten minutes to the beach and 20 minutes to wherever else that matters.
Sorry about your poison ivy encounter. Calamine?
;-)
So, trees are smarter than the idiots who think they will drown in their cities by the sea because of climate whatever the scam is called now.
You know this and so this is for others - if you go from Tucson to Flagstaff AZ you cover every climate region except subtropical (I think or read somewhere) in some 230 miles (Google maps can’t get seem to get there so that’s a guestimate)but in low desert few or no saguaros, heading up to the mesas, lots and lots, above mesas, 3500’ + no saguaros. Think its something to do with nature.
Oh and if you’re on that trip take a left around Mayer, AZ and go to Prescott (69 off 17N) instead of Flagstaff. You can still see the San Francisco Peaks (Flagstaff) from Prescott and Prescott has Whiskey Row. Trust me. ;-)

Words to live by. Especially if the main vine is has dark hairs.
That ex[plains the occasional story where someone crashes their car into a tree that "just jumped ot"....gonna have to put some "Tree X-Ing" signs up with the Deer signs...
What REALLY bothers me is when a LIB idiot “migrates” into our community. That is something very disgusting.

A lot of trees that like warm weather have died out here in south Virginia when people used to have orchards.
If anything, I keep seeing evidence of global COOLING.
