I hope God doesn’t ever “Rest her Soul”. Sing on Aretha.
Long live the queen.

She always had my propers.

I Feel a special kinship with Aretha, because my vocal coach also worked with her.

What a legend and powerhouse. She truly expressed the SOUL of America to the world and is beloved by so many around the world. Much R-E-S-P-E-C-T to her, her family, and the legacy of all her accomplishments. May GOD rest her bold and beautiful soul.

I was just driving home from the dentist. Turned on the radio, “Respect” was playing, and I thought, “she must have died.”
The song after that was also by Aretha, so then I was sure.

Sad day in the world of music. I remember reading here a few days ago that she was in grave condition.
She was from an era where there were true "divas", not these phony wannabees today who have to rely on auto-tune in order to sound better than a braying donkey.
A band I was in used to play several of her her tunes, including the obvious hits. One of my favorites, though, never made it that big: Tighten Up Your Tie, Button Up Your Jacket (Make It For The Door).

Ahhhhhhhh d@$%@*!
This really sucks. She’s one of those that you always feel glad to hear that they were still touring and selling out venues.
Keith Richards still survives, though.

I used to long to sing like her and was so sad that I didn’t. Then my husband pointed out that, at her level of excellence, I was being absurd. I might as well say I’m jealous of Michelangelo because I can’t sculpt like him. There’s no shame in not singing like Aretha. Nobody sings like Aretha.
Thank God for her talent, and that it was shared with the world.
Rest in Peace.

May she Rest in Peace but I wish she hadn’t paid the bond for Communist Angela Davis. Her father was against but Aretha, strong will, went ahead and did it.

So sad. She was a great artist. I was at the FAME studios last year where she recorded some of her early stuff. When they were talking about her time there, they mentioned that she'd flopped badly before recording there. Apparently, prior to her time at FAME, they didn't know what to do with her. Afterwards, it was history.I have several of her tunes in my playlist. Time to queue it up. Some of what I have is pretty obscure.
