Tim Pawlenty -- who briefly ran for president in 2012 and had derided President Trump as "unhinged" -- was denied in his effort to stage a political comeback and become Minnesotas governor again in the race to replace Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton.
County Commissioner Jeff Johnson won in Tuesday's Minnesota GOP gubernatorial primary despite Pawlenty's enormous fundraising and name recognition advantages. He also won despite his own history as the party's losing candidate for governor four years ago.
Pawlenty joins several other prominent Republicans -- including Reps. Martha Roby and Mark Sanford, as well as Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker -- who have recently suffered major political consequences, at least in part, for opposing Trump.
Johnson had positioned himself as a more conservative candidate than Pawlenty. He branded the former two-term governor as part of the "status quo" and bashed him for calling Trump "unhinged and unfit for the presidency" in the weeks leading up to the 2016 election -- rhetoric that Pawlenty softened during the campaign.
Pawlenty was hoping to resurrect his political career after flaming out as a presidential candidate in 2011. He spent the intervening years as a Washington lobbyist.

Excellent.
Jeff Johnson will be the next Governor of Minnesota.
Wow.
He could have walked into a Senate nomination.
RGA is allegedly disheartened and may got give Jeff Johnson the funding they were prepared to give to Pawlenty.
MN is a very important state for us this year.
“”””””””MN is a very important state for us this year.””””””””
If Trump swings by a few times the state could swing.
Maybe our best 2 US House pickup chances are in MN, I imagine the President will be stopping by personally.
Although Id hoped he could have risen to the occasion, its clear Trump is unwilling or unable to demonstrate even the most basic level of discipline, character and judgment necessary to lead our great nation, Pawlenty said in a statement. He is unsound, uninformed, unhinged and unfit to be President of the United States, and I am withdrawing my support of him.
Ha ha. And the RINO blames his loss on the rules having changed under Trump.
“Jeff Johnson will be the next Governor of Minnesota.”
From your lips to God’s ears.
Sadly, I think Johnson will suffer the same fate as he did on his last run for Guv.

And yet in all the Pawlenty ads the last month he said he wants strong borders, no welfare to go to illegals, blah blah blah.
His ads were exactly what Trump has done but we all know Pawlenty just goes where the wind takes him.
Adios to trash.
This came down to who insulted Trump the least - “unhinged” (Pawlenty) vs. “jackass” (Johnson).
More WINNING!
Really?
Is there reason to hope the state might right its ship?
I used to live on the western border and watched a decent, prosperous, farm-state optimism and practicality turn not so slowly to a lunatic leftist muzzie self-destructiveness.
Coleman, Pawlenty, Dayton and that ilk---not to mention Jesse---left nothing but trouble in their wakes.
What would motivate donors to give to a loser like Pawlenty?
RINOs and Establishment types...................
While Norm Coleman watched and whimpered.
in 2008, Pawlenty was sure he was going to be picked as McCain’s running mate. He was jumping in front of every camera within 100 yards of him. Then the rumor mill heated up even more when someone said the VP pick’s name started with a P. When it turned out to be Palin, Pawlenty was so upset that he did not even attend the first McCain - Palin rally after the convention, saying he had a previous engagement in Duluth. To make matters even worse, he allowed Franken to steal a senate seat without so much as a peep in protest, as the dems “discovered” previously uncounted ballots in brook closets, in trunks of cars, and probably hollow logs.
Pawlenty deserved to lose.
Hes a wuss, Jim.
From “The Distinguished Gentleman” (Eddie Murphy) “Jeff Johnson, the name you know! Vote for Jeff!”
As long as it’s not
JEH Johnson.....................
