A Phoenix father is charged with murder for allegedly killing a man who was trying to get into his daughter's bathroom stall.
Melvin Harris' fiancée, Diana Jackson, says he and his 16-year-old daughter stopped at a convenience store so she could use the restroom. Harris said a man, later identified as Leon Armstrong, tried to get inside the stall with the teen.
They alerted store management and security.
But Jackson believes Harris felt not enough was done about it.
Harris told the security guard to 'take care of the situation, or he would do it himself.'
As they were driving away, Harris spotted Armstrong again and got out to confront him.
Witnesses say Harris then went after Armstrong, repeatedly stomping and kicking him.
"He did was he was supposed to do for our kid," Jackson said. "You cannot tell someone they're wrong for protecting their children."
Armstrong died at the hospital. Harris told police Armstrong took a swing at him first.
Harris is charged with second-degree murder.
He didn’t shoot him, he beat him to death. No gun in the story.

I agree. I sympathize with him, but he killed someone over an incident in which no one was touched and no apparent weapon was used.
Yeah, I think Harris has some legal culpability. That said, I think a manslaughter conviction with time served would probably be the best outcome.
Depends on AZ laws. Talking to a man is not a crime, even if it is not a friendly discussion.
If Armstrong ( the dead guy) struck Harris first, then it was he who was the aggressor, Harris would every right to defend himself (or flee), dealers’ choice. However, once Harris had Armstrong defeated and kicked/stomped him to death, then Harris is well past countervailing force required to stop an attack- most states laws allow blow for blow until the aggressor /other party is done or unable to respond.
Going beyond that point is a crime, hence Murder 2.

Heard this on the radio a few hours ago. No mention at that time that Armstrong had died.
Why assume the daughter and Harris are telling the truth about the victim attempting to enter the bathroom stall? I had a drunk neighbor try to enter my condo one night, does that justify 2nd Degree Murder? Can we get the victims side of the story? No, because he was murdered by Harris.
Harris approached the man and punched him in the face, causing the victim to fall. The victim was snoring and moaning while on the ground. Harris then stood over the victim, struck the victim in the face several more times, and also kicked and stomped on him.
Harris fled to his home from the scene. The victim sustained swelling to the brain and a nasal fracture, and suffered loss of oxygen to his brain for an extended period. The victim later died of his injuries.

The father will be offered a minimal (about 1 year probation) plea deal. The prosecution will not let this case go to a jury.
It makes me sick how poor the grammar skills are of contemporaries. They don't understand antecedents, surface level case.

There is not enough information in the article or video to determine why the guy was trying to get into the restroom in the first place. There is a good chance that he might not have had any idea that the restroom was even occupied and just thought that the door was jammed. Maybe he had an intestinal issue and was desperate to get to a toilet. We don't know. I am assuming that if the security guard thought that the guys intent was to molest a teenage girl that the police would have been called.
Judging from the tape of the girlfriend I am going to take a wild guess that the a$$kicker was being egged on by the two women as he kicked and stomped the other guy to death. Is this trio, the group commenter here would want to decide their fate if they did something that this trio determined was inappropriate?
The jury finds the defendant not guilty.
Keep in mind that Target supports this bathroom policy of having sick twisted men entering women’s bathrooms.
Cute picture of Leevon, but did you happen to note that the only alleged crime on his “rap sheet” was “(1) Count of CRIMINAL TRESPASS 3RD DEG”. That likely means he was found in an area where there was a no trespassing sign posted. This would be consistent with a homeless guy.
I spent 25 years working on the streets of a town known for its violence. This guy doesn’t have the look or the rap sheet of a violent felon, or a sexual predator. He looks like a black homeless Forrest Gump to me. Maybe more info will come out showing that I am wrong.
I normally would be upset if picked for jury duty...not in this case..
