Dem lawmaker seeks to lower voting age to 16

Rep. Grace Meng is sponsoring a resolution that would extend the right to vote to U.S. citizens 16 years of age or older.

The New York Democrat’s resolution, introduced earlier this month, would repeal the 26th Amendment of the Constitution, which currently states the right to vote for citizens who are 18 years of age or older "shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State."

If the resolution is passed, the amendment would instead say the right to vote for citizens who are 16 years of age or older "shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State."

The resolution comes several months after a City Council member in Washington, D.C., Charles Allen (D), introduced legislation that would lower the age to vote in federal and local elections to 16.

At the time, Allen said he proposed the legislation after seeing high school students organize and participate in the March for Our Lives event in D.C. to protest gun violence and demand new gun laws.

The U.S. voting age was last changed in 1971 after a decades-long fight. Proponents of the 26th Amendment argued that any citizen who was old enough to be drafted into the military at age 18 should also be afforded the right to vote.

If my elected officials can vote to send me to war I should at least have a say in the matter. I.e. the ability to vote.

There also needs to be physical verification of all registered voters over the age of 95 years.

Are the upright, taking nourishment, and breathing?

So, the Democrats think a resolution can be used to repeal a Constitutional amendment?

So your not mature enough to own a weapon at 18 according to politicians but you are mature to vote at 16, forgive me but that does not make any logical sense and your right, it does say something about the politicians in our society, they suck.

Next, Democrats will want a law that assumes every aborted baby would have voted a straight Democrat ticket, and therefore must be automatically added to the vote tally.

By this logic, gun ownership should,do be permitted at 16. But why not 15 or 14, or 12, or 10?

Why not just let kids “identify” as a voters when toddlers, like they want to do with gender?

think it should be 8

I agree. If eight years olds are shown that the liberals have already stolen half of their money, they would never vote for democrats.

There is only 1 reason they would do this. Because at 16 you are still in school and you can be easily be coerced and manipulated to vote right there during class.

That used to be my line. It’s actually the thinking that got the drinking age down to 18 in many states. The results forced many states to bring it back up to 21. Voting is a lot more significant a right than drinking.
