Police chief's son, 18, charged with beating elderly Sikh man, smiles, flips bird in court

The 18-year-old son of a police chief in California’s Bay Area, who allegedly attacked a 71-year-old Sikh man, appeared in court Friday, smiling and waving his middle fingers at media cameras, a report said.

Tyrone Keith McAllister, estranged son of Union City police Chief Darryl McAllister, entered the courtroom and flipped his middle fingers at their camera, Sacramento's FOX 40 reported.

He appeared to be grinning, and made suspected gang signs while his hands were cuffed, the Record of Stockton reported.

"[W]ords can barely describe how embarrassed, dejected, and hurt my wife, daughters, and I feel right now," the chief wrote on Facebook. He also wrote that his son, who has spent time in both juvenile and adult jail, needs to be held accountable for his actions.

The younger McAllister and a 16-year-old companion allegedly confronted Sahib Singh Natt while he was taking a stroll in Manteca, near Stockton in the Central Valley, on Monday at about 6 a.m., and asked him for money.

Authorities said the pair kicked Natt to the ground. Police said the video shows the suspect kick him at least three times and that one of the suspects may have waved a gun.

The police chief and his wife worked with local police to track down their son and the 16-year-old. The pair were arrested Wednesday on one count of attempted robbery, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators were still looking into whether the attack meets the legal criteria for charging a hate crime, the Record reported.

“The accountability should have occurred when the little dindu was 4-5 years old. “

They might have. His daughters don’t seem to be a problem, nor does he. There are a heck of a lot of parents who did things the right way, and some kids reject all the good parenting in the world.

This dindu had every advantage in the world (apparently good family (but who really knows), police chief dad, mother is around) but he still screwed up, multiple times.

Just what does it take for these to not fail?

This country has spent trillions, TRILLIONS, on this problem, to absolutely NO EFFECT.

Makes you think its in the DNA, meaning a hopeless problem.

Lunatic, probably schizophrenia to some degree. I’d do a drug test on the kid and then prepare to stick him away into some mental hospital for the rest of his life.

Get rid of hate crime and hate speech laws.

Keep that in mind if you get on a jury where they charge a fake crime.

He appeared to be grinning

He "appeared to be grinning" - gee, maybe that's because he was grinning. Reporters are perfectly happy to make up things out of political bias and thin air, but they can't bring themselves to simply report facts.

As for this 18 year old criminal, I'm not sure what he's so happy about - he's the son of a police chief from a nice middle class family, and he's just thrown his life away in an act of mindless cruelty and violence toward an old man who did him no wrong. He's going to get quite a reception in prison, where the combination of being the son of a police chief and the fact that he's only 18 years old should make him the focus of a lot of unwanted attention.

True. However, Stockton of all the central California towns was about the stodgiest. Unlike others it had a high percentage of original settlers from New England, as witnessed by the unusually (for California) large number of brick houses. It had an economy that ran off of being an administrative and financial hub for agribusiness. In conversations with a coworker from there he said it was an open secret the C o C types and the local elites liked things the way they were and wanted no significant growth. So I still an interested in how this place seems to have gone to h-ll.

This makes me so sad. My real estate agent at the moment is a Sikh so I imagine him in this situation. He’s so soft-spoken and gentle and amazingly natty in his turban and sharp suit. Nice people, generally.

The younger McAllister and a 16-year-old companion allegedly confronted Sahib Singh Natt while he was taking a stroll in Manteca [...] and asked him for money.

Yes, I'm sure that the two thugs politely removed their head cover and sweetly asked, "We would gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger today."

Regards,

Interesting post. I had no idea about New England in California and I’ve often wondered how one town will have brick houses and another stone and another wood. There is a reason for everything!

Nah, just a kid who made terrible choices., who is now an adult who makes worse choices. His dad and mom helped track him down and want him held accountable based on his past, unrepentant history. Prayers for their family. The power that changed the heart of Saul into Paul is available to everyone.
