Roundup does cause cancer, a jury has declared in an unprecedented trial into the health dangers of Monsanto's weedkiller.
After three days of deliberations, jurors on Friday sided with terminally-ill groundsman Dewayne Johnson, 46, who has just weeks to live, awarding him $250 million in punitive damages, plus nearly $40m in compensatory damages, bringing the total to $289m.

My apologies for getting the date of the article wrong. It should be August 10, not August 8.
The award is certain to be reduced on appeal. This is the result of Fake Science. Students start out ignorant and wind up even more ignorant.
Monsanto has been demonized by the Left for years, with their clueless minions just sharing “Monsanto is EVIL!” memes on social media just because all their friends are sharing them. Morons.
Probably overturned by a judge on appeal. These juries are suckers whenever they hear the word “big,” such as “big oil,” “big business,” “big tobacco.” They think “what the heck, they have plenty of money, and this poor schmuck has cancer, let’s be kind, they can afford it.”
I saw an ad on Facebook not too many hours ago, which claimed that a link to non-Hodgkins lymphoma was found from glyphosate. That of itself doesn’t tell me anything useful: a compound found in celery can lead to skin cancer, yet nobody’s trying to ban or sue over celery. How was the glyphosate dose incurred? How severe was it?
One would hope, but would such an appeal be based on the scientific merits of the evidence, or on the conduct of the trial?
Morons, Really? Who do you think produced Agent Orange? That’s right, Monsanto.
Correlation is not causation.
Always read and follow label directions.
How is the groundskeeper able to prove he has never misused the product?
“This is the result of Fake Science”
And the fact that the plaintiff is black.
That was LONG before the leftist twenty-first century clickbait hysteria over the corporation.
Except that it didn’t say anything about “correlation.”
That said, scientific thought as it used to be honored is going badly downhill with the acceptance of “global warmism” theories (we do not have knowledge of enough factors to draw the alleged conclusions), and it would not be surprising to see other such thought declining too.
Doesn’t matter, a corporation has the duty to know if their product causes or could cause damage to humans that use it.
The left need to be ‘rounded-up’ and eradicated
Evaluation of these kinds of studies was part of my job for several decades. I can assure you no honest person who understands statistics would believe only a few of these findings.
I have serious doubts as to whether the jury understood the science presented.
So, guess we need a jury to determine whether or not glow-bull warming exists and is caused by humans?
Another of N reasons (where N is a very large number) why the legal profession is considered to be composed of human-mask wearing slime molds.
And, obviously, why congress is regarded at the bottom of the barrel, since it is composed of ill-educated science illiterates.
So the opinions of a highly emotional jury are now a viable substitute for actual scientific research?
Good to know. We’re spending billions annually on the research. It’s about time we found a way to save some money.
Pesticides and herbicides are neurotoxic. How sad that most FReepers dont get it. So many FReepers have neurological issues they might chalk up to natural causes or age. Most of them are probably environmental, diet or otherwise. Im glad this guy got the settlement.
RoundUp should not be treated as such a casual little product. At the very least, even if you all just want caveat emperor, there should be more info on how delicate our own brain and neurosystems are, how affected they are even by substances entering transdermally.
Again, I am not for banning every potentially harmful product. Im for more info and less hiding the true dangers of products so people can make informed decisions.
