DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings is speaking out following the resignation of Mayor Pro-Tem Dwaine Caraway.
Caraway pleaded guilty Thursday to federal corruption charges. According to the U.S. Attorneys Office and the IRS, Caraway accepted $450,000 in bribes and kickbacks related to a scheme that could have contributed to the demise of Dallas County Schools. Mayor Rawlings spoke publicly for the first time about the news regarding Caraway Friday morning at an event at the Dallas Regional Chamber.
We work hard to make sure our city is represented well throughout Texas, throughout our country, and throughout our world, Rawlings said in front of a crowd of other local leaders. To have a blemish on it and a stain on it like this is a terrible day for us.
Rawlings said that what happened to Dwaine Caraway is an example of why the city needs to improve what he called economic inclusion.
Too often public servants that come from poor parts of our city are caught in and let themselves be caught in a trap around money, around economic inclusion, because they dont have any money, Rawlings said.
The Mayor said a persons financial upbringing isnt an excuse for crime but that economic inclusion needs to be addressed in the City of Dallas.
Caraway faces up to 10 years in prison. His sentencing date is set for mid-December.
This was the most bizarre -- and frankly racist -- excuse for corruption I have ever heard.
For those who do not know, the Mayor Pro-Tem (Vice Mayor) plead guilty to massive corruptions, taking a slew of bribes in exchange for awarding huge contracts to his buddies.
Both Caraway and Rawlings are holder's people.
One has to wonder when John Wylie Price’s name will come up again...
I can’t imagine there being corruption nearby and him not have a part in it.
TX ping!
Economic inclusion. Is that a technical term?
>>Economic inclusion. Is that a technical term?<<
I am pretty sure it means “blame Whitey.”
We learn more everyday about the depths of moral rot in our country, sickening.
Next is the Hillary Defense “I didn’t intend to steal, the money just stuck to my hands and forced its way into my pockets.” “Yeah, that’s the ticket”
Or “Let’s take Whitey’s stuff.”
It’s been the Chicago Way for 150 yrs., at least.
Very well written article, took talent and a rubber spine to NOT include part affiliation, a dimocrat. We all know if the roles were reversed how many times we would see the word “republican”
>>I cant imagine there being corruption nearby and him not have a part in it.
<<
Note this one was Federal. The prosecutors who went against Price were the 3 (or 4 or however many) Stooges.
God includes everyone in His commandments. He commands: “You shall not steal.” There are no excuses or alibis based on race or class.
>>Next is the Hillary Defense I didnt intend to steal, the money just stuck to my hands and forced its way into my pockets. Yeah, thats the ticket<<
This is “The Jerk” defense: I was born a po’ black chile.
Think need to dig in this guys backyard also
The corruption endemic to big city governments is such low hanging fruit for an enterprising young journalist. You wouldnt even have to try very hard to find it & make acareer for yourself.

This has been a huge story here in Dallas: EVERYONE knows the maypr and this perp are Black.
There will be a VERY quiet — but VERY real — reaction to this and the blacks on the Council know it. Especially since the mayor just told everyone that poor (read: black) people cannot be trusted in government.
As someone mentioned, there was a botched prosecution of a VERY corrupt black County Commissioner. This will stick in people’s minds as “this one did’t get away.”
That is the reality even if the print press won’t say it (the Radio personalities will).
Somebody raised the Tariff rate on Caraway?
What a shame! A modern day “Les Miserable.” He did for his loaf of bread... Is it his fault today’s loaf of bread is $450,000?
White guy complained ng about theft and bribery by a Po’ blank boy.....
That ought to play well
