A retired NYPD detective sitting in a Bentley with bulletproof glass got into a gunfight with a man he says tried to swipe his Rolex in Brooklyn Sunday, police said.
Former Detective Robert Santos told cops he was in his 2010 luxury ride outside his dads home in East New York at about 3:50 a.m. when a guy walks up, points a gun at him and says, Give me your Rolex, a high-ranking police source told The Post.
Santos, 46, puts the watch on the seat. He then gets out of the car and gets into a gunfight with the guy, the source said.
The would-be robber described as between 35 and 45 years old and last seen wearing light-colored clothing fled, police said.
Cops were scouring hospitals in case he was struck by a bullet, sources said.
The cop, who retired in 2013 after 21 years, wasnt shot but his 2010 Bentley took a few slugs. He was taken to an area hospital for ringing in his ears.

Maybe he has/had a rich wife or inherited money. It DOES happen.
.
Or maybe it’s the the usual case of simply paying unionized people in government, like cops, water and power, fire fighters, city council members, mayors, et al, way to much and the same reason why it’s driving counties, cities and states straight into the poor house and why they have to keep raising their effing taxes.
Maybe. Or maybe some valuable “evidence” went missing from the lockup when he was around...
LOL!
Gee...
Must be nice to be able to carry a firearm to protect your own life in NYC... Great to be one of The Chosen Few.
Unlike ordinary peons, that is... all they get to do is shut up, suck on it, and fork over their money to the criminals IN office and out of office.
So much for Constitutional rights.
True.
I knew a guy in Law Enforcement whose wife made much more than he did.
He said he could never afford to be in Law Enforcement if his wife did not have the income.
He did the Law Enforcement because he loved it so much.
IMHO, he was a real A-hole on a power trip. But that is just my opinion.
New York City has some of the highest paid police in the United States. I think California may be higher. California corrections officers have a very sweet deal.
One of the best LE jobs in California, IMHO, is to be assigned to the California Highway patrol in a rural county in the mountains, away from the cities...
The pay and pensions are the same.
Those jobs are like winning the lotto.
It is surprising how many police want jobs in the cities.
Many do not want a job in the country.
Never get out of the vehicle.
A 2010 Bentley today is half the cost of high-end, loaded American made SUV.
That struck me as well.
He is in an armored vehicle. But he gets out, supposedly *after* he is threatened with a gun.
Maybe he had the window rolled down and the perp aimed at him through the open window?
Maybe he took off the Rolex, and tossed it inside the car as he got out, as a distraction while he drew his pistol?
Lots of unknown details.
Wonder when he bought the Bentley. Eight year old Bentleys can be had for less than a new Chevy. Whatever, he needs more range time. (Come to think if it so do I.)
And a new Bentley will run ya anywhere from about $160,00 to about $300,000.
Certainly not your middle class vehicle.
Here is another article that has an image showing the bullet holes in the Bentley.
They are coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle.
It is kind of a funny angle for a thief who is commenting on the retired officer’s Rolex at 3:40 in the a.m.
Maybe the person shot at was running away, and firing back?
Looks to me like he was aiming at the rear drivers side quadrant of the vehicle.
The article says there are 11 bullet holes in the Bentley.
Here is the link I was referring to:

Maybe the Bentley was taken as an asset forfeiture, and he had inside knowledge of the sale, or auction, or whatever...
Remember a few years ago when a couple of NYPD cops started shooting at a perp while in the downtown area? They were something like 15 feet from the perp, fired a bunch of rounds, and only hit a few innocent bystanders. They didn't hit the perp once.
In the articles I have read, there is no mention of a wife.
Cannot say there is no wife, but no mention of one.
