Theres no doubt now. The race for Congress in Eastern Washington is for real.
Out of more than 120,000 votes counted, Republican U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers had a lead of a little more than 500 votes in Tuesdays primary over Democrat Lisa Brown.
The contest, between the high-ranking congressional Republican and a Democrat with years of experience in state political leadership, has drawn national interest and big spending as the parties vie for support in the first midterm election since President Donald Trump took office.
Buoyed by the down-ticket performance of other Democrats, a beaming Brown took the stage before a crowd of 150-plus Democratic supporters at the Carpenters Hall in Spokanes Logan Neighborhood.
Have you seen my post history from 2016. I was never anti-Cruz.
When McMorris Rodgers types like Kasich, Charlie Baker, the Bushes, etc. can’t bring themselves to hold their noses and vote for the republican nominee who is not one of their own (Trump) as they ALWAYS told conservatives that we must do, to support the likes of the Bushes, the Doles, the McCains, the Romneys, then the days of supporting whoever the republican nominee at all costs are over.
We played that game for a long time, with betrayal after betrayal. Some of us are done with it.
Who did YOU vote for in YOUR state’s primary in 2016. Be honest. I voted for Trump here in MA, and it was Trump or Cruz all along for me.
“... adding the totals of other candidates in the race, the Republican share of the vote was still roughly 53 percent. “
Well, gee, That’s no story at all.
That statement might be true during a primary, but Ted Cruz said it at the convention, after Trump had already secured the nomination.
It was a despicable, divisive thing to say, and most people saw it as such.
I'm a Texan, and was a staunch Cruz supporter, from the time he first ran for the U.S. Senate. He was my first choice in the 2016 primary, and is the first politician I ever gave real money to. Had Trump not run, Cruz would have been my guy to the bitter end.
Sadly, the pressure of running for president brought out character flaws in the man that turned myself and millions of other conservatives off. In Texas, many of us will now be holding our noses when we vote for him in November.
our local rag is breathless to get Rodgers out...just breathless...
cancelled the paper today...lol...
she has always been a big Trump supporter...always....
there was probably at least a dozen people on the ballot...some were the redneck candidates...I expect Rodgers to haul all those votes in come November...
WE NEED HER IN THERE....
Cathy is a rino but I am going to contribute to her campaign. I live in Spokane and her opponent, Lisa Brown is a poisonous leftist. The ads are getting vicious as usual.
The highest-ranking woman in the House Republican conference is endorsing Donald Trump even as she declares it was “not exactly” with enthusiasm, nor did it relieve “concerns” about his controversial remarks about women and “those from different backgrounds.”

Maybe you did not listen to Cruz's speech and only heard the boos at the end.
In any case you are obviously fully qualified to be writing code on hate speech for Twitter
The Texas primaries were early that year and I voted for Cruz. And I will be voting a mostly republican ballot this fall.
I do have a few exceptions, like my U.S. House rep, my Texas States House rep. - Both are RINOs and big spenders.
I was lucky to have escaped Texacgusetts back in the early 1980's.
What aggravates me to no end is the vile BS over the last three or four primaries. No civility on this site - very depressing.
It turned out that Trump is way above the rest of the republican trash out there.
Maybe you're just a butthurt Cruzer who still hasn't gotten over the fact that he lost the nomination to Trump.
Supporters like you aren't doing the senator any favors. I told you that he was my first choice, and that he was the first politician I'd ever sent money to, but none of that matters. I'm disappointed in the guy, and for that, you condemn me to hell.
You probably don't even see that you're making things even harder for his re-election bid.
