he Watergate tapes stand as one of the stunning, implausible twists of American history. Nixon confessed his crimes and recorded himself in the process. Who does that?
In their book The Final Days, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein write, the single thread that linked the problems together was the Presidents tapes. The lawyers represented a President who had bugged himself, who had blurted his secrets into hidden microphones. They had not yet heard the tapes, nor seen any transcripts of them. The President would not permit it. They were told to mount a defense, but were not given the information to do so.
The Watergate scandal became about those tapes the battle to make them public and expose Nixons private confessions. Without the tapes, a resignation would have been unlikely. This was a flimsy bit of providence, a ridiculous chance act upon which the integrity of our political system came to rest. But so it went.
The White House today has no internal taping system. But it has, perhaps, something serving the same purpose: Donald Trump himself.

Dream on, liberals!!!
“oh, the good ol days of Watergate!”
GET OVER IT!
There ya go alright.
Hello there—good to see you.
Yeah we got tweets showing Trump colluded with the Russians and Fusion GPS and Christoher Steele to produce a fake dossier on Hillary that he presented to a FISA court while hiding the fact it was made up BS his campaign had paid for in order to start an investigative witch hunt against Hilary...or not.
Marjorie woods owned up to about 7 minutes of this as I recall.
Who did the investigations on this?
Who were the tapes turned over to?
Hillary?
Get mental help.
Deranged
Hillary erased her emails.
Nixon was tried and convicted by the media, not a real court.
We didn’t call it fake news back then, but it was.
Unfortunately for Richard Nixon, people accepted whatever the media dished out.
45 years later, the media is trying Trump and finding him guilty, just as they did with Nixon.
But Trump isn’t bending over and taking whatever the media serves up- he’s shoving it back in their faces.
The wicked witch is dead.
Hail Trump.
The fake news’ time for honoring itself has come to an end.
One Yugely gigantic problem.
Nixon’s tapes were his 1st Amendment ramblings that he wanted kept private because they showed his impropriety.
Trump’s tweets are public, 1st Amendment ramblings that everyone acts like are official government communiques but they are not.
With the rabidness and conspiracy of the anti-Trump coup in this country, if Trump has tweeted ANYTHING that can be used against him, I am surely sure that they would be using it to its fullest and not just writing fake news stories about it.
Remember during the Watergate break in how Nixon used the FBI to wiretap and plant spies in his opponents campaign. Oh no, wait. That was the Hillary campaign.

JFK
LBJ
It was JFK who installed the taping system.
LBJ’s tapes were finally released decades later in the 90s.
They have been salivating at the prospect ever since of repeating this feat, of bringing down a Republican President. And thus the constant comparisons to Nixon. They are obsessed.
Needed repetition....loudly
RUSH was right, when the Dems are out of power they are 24/7 birdsh*t kooky and s is the Liberal media.
The contrast when the GOP is out of power is amazing to behold.
The public gets its history from TV and the movies. Reading to get it is way too hard!
And this time, we brought baby Harp seal clubs. Nail-studded.
