Republican strategist Karl Rove on Monday said President Trump should lower expectations ahead of Novembers midterm elections, not predict a "red wave" of GOP victories.
Rove, appearing on Fox News Americas Newsroom, pointed out that the party that holds the White House historically has lost seats in a midterm election.
In all likelihood, Republicans are going to lose seats in the House, theyre going to lose governorships, theyre going to lose state legislative seats, Rove said. I think the president would be well-advised to say we face an uphill fight but he feels good about it, rather than set the expectation that somehow or another the Republicans are going to gain across the board with a red wave.
Roves comments came a day after Trump predicted on Twitter that there might be a Red Wave in November.
Trump used the same phrase during a rally Saturday in Ohio, where he was campaigning for Republican Troy Balderson, who faces a special House election against Democrat Danny OConnor on Tuesday.
If the Democrats get in, theyre going to raise your taxes. Youre going to have crime all over the place. Youre going to have people all over the border, Trump said. So why would that be a blue wave? I think it could be a red wave.
A RealClearPolitics average of major congressional polls shows that Democrats hold about a 7-point lead over Republicans.
Most political handicappers give Democrats a good chance of taking back the House, though Republicans are well-positioned to retain their Senate majority given a 2018 map that has Democrats defending 10 seats in states won by Trump.
Rove, former President George W. Bush's political strategist, saw his old boss pickup House seats in 2002 a remarkable achievement that came just more than a year after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Just go away Rove POS.
If the Democrats pick up ONE House Seat, the Media will call it a Blue Wave.
That’s exactly what McConnell did a few months ago. Why would Trump do that?
I hope he’s as right about this as he was about his 2016 hilLIARy winning predictions...
Karl Rove is the Cheap Labor Express strategist.
Only Bush League Republicans care what he says.
I see no down-side in pumping up the base and claiming victory already. It may or may not happen ... but what the heck?
I was a little unsure about this Red Wave business. Now I feel a lot more confident about it. “Rove, you magnificent bastard” was fun and all back in the day, but time has moved on.
Is he on the Soros payroll?
Assuming good will on the part of Rove (big, and likely false, assumption), he is playing small ball, hoping to eke out a win in the bottom of the ninth off of a suicide squeeze or sacrifice fly.
Trump plays for the fences, and maybe doesn’t always get there on his first at-bat, but is always considered a threat, drawing more walks than average, and always keeps you in the game.
The hype about "blue wave," "100 House seats," "taking control of the Senate," that kind of stuff is probably pie-in-the-sky though, on par with the old favorite "400+ electoral votes for Hillary Clinton?"
Wow, Trumps says there may be a red wave, no comment on size, just that there might be a red wave instead of a blue way and Rove thinks this is too much?! Is he afraid Trump is encouraging Trump Republicans at the expense of RINOs?
Actually YES! Thanks! As you know the exact opposite of what this maroon says comes true! BRAVO d-Bag!
And Karl, your version of neocon compassionate conservatism is EXACTLY how we ended up with a foreign born Marxist in the Whitehouse for eight years...
Tokyo Rove should go into retirement.
He was not at all a Magnificent Bastard. He flopped in 2006.
And to think we once called Rove a “Magnificent B@st@rd!”
DJT is the president we hoped W would be but never was-—no doubt partially from Rove giving W cr@ppy RINO advice.
Actually, it couldn’t hurt to downplay it a bit. Too many voters might think we’ve got it in the bag and fail to get out and participate.
Karl, you've licked too many liberal and RINO sphincters clean to be taken seriously. Thanks yesthatjallen.
