Did you ever thank God for the stamina that made it possible?

30% of Americans are obese. Why is government subsidizing food in any way at all?

I was thinking about emergency response squads. Certainly we have enough disasters to keep crews busy. And not all of it has to be brute manual labor — not everybody is suited to that. Some may just be able to sit down and talk to the victims of the disasters, and that’s good too. Out of work IT could help people set up computers. It doesn’t need to be a punishment, which is how some conservatives view it. Remember, if we do not glorify God, we ourselves will be found short of glory, and all that we boasted and bragged in will be found vanity.

Ah, such entanglements began long ago with farm price supports. It’s like the Catholics complaining about the Protestants when they have their own giant prior breached fence to mend with the Orthodox. Does food even need to be all that expensive in the first place?

As for “obesity” — I’ll think that’s a disqualifier when all those of means who are obese swear to a water diet until they are back into a healthy weight.

The most foundational difference between the Left and Right today -

The Left wants to give just enough money to keep people dependent and in poverty, the Right wants to create jobs so that everyone has the opportunity to work their way out of poverty and into independence.

We need to look to our own knitting too. I’ve been beat out by many an Indian information technology person — I bear them no grudge for wanting to make a nice wage, but why can’t that blessing go back to India for India’s own domestic benefit, pulling it out of the ranks of the third world into the ranks of the first world? “Workers oppressed by unfair overseas competition” ought to have easier dibs in the system.

Whoa, wait just a minute there. Newt and company drafted those bills and Clinton later on took credit when the national debt increases slowed or momentarily decreased.

He signed what was sent to him. That’s all.

Not only tech jobs, but the construction
trades as well. Illegals have completely
taken over the industry. Not to mention
landscaping, and food plants.

Abolish the Food Stamp program in it’s entirety and set up Soup Kitchens

No argument about “why” Clinton tried to “end welfare as we know it” — he was triangulating, trying to get traction against Gingrich and the backlash to his and Hillary’s liberal crap. But, the fact remains that he did push workfare, even if he was pushed to do it, and it was considered a big deal at the time.

Somehow, Obama just quietly undid that. There wasn’t much talk about it when he did it, either. Maybe some crap about “this isn’t who we are”, but really, it felt like he would do anything to expand the welfare state, for the takers already hear, and the takers he planned to import. After he eliminated the workfare requirement, he really went after the Border Control people.

I agree with you.

There is no reason why we have to provide food stamps when we can simply provide the food itself. Soup kitchens would ensure that all of the investment was being used in the proper way rather than abused as it is now by individuals. Having these kitchens operated by those receiving welfare benefits would also be beneficial.

Thanks for your additional thoughts on that.

During Clinton’s first two years, he wasn’t headed in this direction at all.

Then Newt pushed the Contract with American, and Congress was lost to Clinton. All of a sudden fiscal Conservancy blossomed.

Without Congress, Clinton would never have gotten it.

Welfare reform was the last thing he wanted, but then he was under fire from many directions do to his philandering ways. There were many investigations. Vince Foster had been offed and that was being looked into.

He needed safe haven, and he would have bunked in any quarters to have it, even the shelter of a Conservative budget.

Thanks Enlightened1. And most Demwits can't vote against it, because they'll be voted out, but they won't pick up votes by saying, have to vote yes now, but give us a majority and we'll repeal it, y'know, because of the country's having finally rejected their fast-shuffle lying BS.
