If Trump is disciplined enough to make the economy his headline, there's not much Democrats can do to counteract his message.
Sure, his 2016 election win was about a lot of things that aren’t always prominent, like immigration and cultural change. But according to the massive national exit poll, the economy was still the foremost issue in voters’ minds. Fully 52 percent named the economy as the “most important issue facing the country,” compared to only 18 percent who said terrorism, 13 percent who went with immigration and another 13 percent who chose foreign policy.
The thing you still need to sell in an election is the economy — and right now for Republicans, that’s looking like a pretty high-quality product.
No doubt there are pitfalls ahead for Trump. The first estimate of third quarter GDP is scheduled for release October 26, just 11 days before Election Day, and a bad number could certainly rain on Trump’s campaign trail parade. But right now, economists expect that number to come in at around 3 percent. That means, politically speaking, the next report on economic growth is more likely than not to be bad news for Democrats.
A 4.1 percent economy is not just a tool Trump can use on the campaign trail to boost Republicans. It’s a weapon he can use to slay Democrats. Trump, being Trump, will deploy all kinds of rhetoric, some of it necessary to help bring out his base. But if he is disciplined enough to make the economy his headline, he could well be dealing with a Republican Congress for at least two more years.

This is part of an effort by the establishment to convince Trump to back down on immigration. They are trying get him to kick the can and use the economy for the mid terms and it’s a trick. The MSM knows if we lose the house it’s over for any border control.

BINGO. On Rush today, Trump intimated that a lot of his allies have pressured him not to shut down govt before the midterms.
So he does have a problem. If they have supported him he owes them.
Bingo. While the economy and tax cuts are great they are not typically campaign issues. Trump needs to run on immigration, the Democrats hatred of ICE, their open borders policies, and disdain for the American citizenry. Bush League republicans and other open borders stooges want him to run on everything but immigration.

By all means tout the great job numbers, great GDP, great consumer consumer confidence , great manufacturing job numbers, but what will really energize and bring out GOP voters in record numbers is a wedge issue like illegal immigration, MS 13 killers, Mexico’s record murder rate and drug cartels, murders by illegal immigrant Mexicans, Guatemalans etc. Hammer away at these issues at every campaign stop and the GOP will retain the House and increase majority in The Senate.
Exactly. That’s why Trump’s message will be:
We will continue to have a great economy under my leadership but we must eliminate the number one threat to that economy-open borders and illegal immigration. Democrats will not work with us. So we must elect huge majorities in both the house and senate in order to build the wall and fix the world’s worst immigration system. MAGA.
