Dems' Make-Work Plans Will Cost You Big

Friday morning, 26-year-old software developer David Casarez put on a shirt and tie, grabbed his homemade cardboard sign saying "Homeless -- Hungry 4 Success -- Take a Resume" and positioned himself at an intersection in Mountain View, California. A passerby posted his photo on Twitter. Within a day, Casarez had over 200 job offers.

No surprise. If you're looking for a job, your odds are better now than any time in the last half century. There are more job openings than people out looking. Employers who used to demand a college degree or experience are dropping those requirements. Unemployment is near a 50-year low, and unemployment among blacks and Hispanics is at a nearly all-time low.

Yet Democratic presidential wannabes Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., are campaigning for a "guaranteed jobs" program, as if we're in a depression instead of a boom.

So, too, is the new darling of the left, New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, running for Congress this fall. House Democrats introduced guaranteed job legislation last week.

That does NOT pass the smell test.

The unemployment rate for software developers in their 20's is something like 0.09%.

My view of the “guaranteed jobs” is a little different from Bernie Sanders’ view.

Granted, some folks are disabled, or old and cannot work. Reasonable concern and charity should be expressed for these people.

But anyone else on the government dole who just expects a check, or a rent subsidy, or a WIC card, or whatever should be “guaranteed” a job someplace. Preferably NOT in a Democrat-controlled city. Send them to Nebraska and have them work a farm or something. Even if not economically justifiable, forcing them all to work is better than just sending them a check.

Guaranteed jobs for the “poor”. The time is now.

I have friends over 65 who just got hired within the last 6 months in high tech.
Even my ex wife found a job.
Shocked the heck out of me.

Talk about, out of ideas. This old Trotskyite drivel? Trump is going to beat them even worse in 2020. Even if they run Harambe(Moochella) or her clone Kamala Harris. Token blacks, old socialists and other assorted deranged perverts and Communists, that’s the Democratic bench.

With so many job openings available, WHY would anyone be trying to impose a “make-work” regime upon the public?

Employment in the private sector is always so much more liberating than employment in some government-dictated “position”. For one thing, you get a LOT more productive work done, and for another, wages are much more closely related to job performance than simple tenure.

Yep, if you can spell “Software”, it should be easy right now.

If I wanted one, I'd probably be able to. Problem is I'd be in charge within 6 months and I avoid responsibility now. 😹🍿🍻👍🏼🇺🇸

I’ve got four kids, all of whom are changing careers.

One is working but needs a change. She’s had several interviews and is waiting on decisions.

One just changed to a job in the field she’s been wanting to break into.

One just graduated college as an engineer. Had a job within two weeks. His dream from the age of five was to work at NASA. He’s there and making great money

The last one just got his CDL. He’s volunteering at a camp all summer and has something lined up when he gets home.

It’s a great job market.

Because it's NOT a make-work program. It's a "free money to sit home on the couch and watch Jerry Springer" program.
