Federal judge in Seattle blocks release of blueprints for 3D-printed guns

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Lasnik in Seattle issued a temporary restraining order blocking the release of downloadable blueprints for 3D-printed firearms. Lasnik’s ruling comes a day after Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a suit challenging the Trump administration’s decision to allow the release of the blueprints.

A federal judge in Seattle has granted a temporary restraining order blocking a Texas man from releasing downloadable blueprints for 3D-printed plastic firearms.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Lasnik’s ruling Tuesday comes a day after Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a suit challenging the Trump administration’s decision last month to allow Texas gun-rights advocate Cody Wilson to post the blueprints, saying the move would provide broad unregulated access to dangerous weapons.

Ferguson is the lead attorney general in the multistate lawsuit that was filed in federal courts in seven other states, including New York and Oregon, along with the District of Columbia.

The lawsuit challenges the outcome of a 2015 case that began in 2013 when Wilson, head of the nonprofit Defense Distributed, was found to have violated a federal law known as International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), after publishing downloadable plans for 3D-printed guns online. The files were downloaded more than 100,000 times.

The cat is all ready out of the bag. The only way to stop the manufacture of 3-D printed guns is to outlaw the use and ownership of 3-S printers. Owning a gun that defeats detection is against the law. I’m just sayin’

What federal law is he citing to impose such an order?

He isn’t citing a law. He is just stating his opinion that “irreparable harm” will result if his order is not followed.

It is dictatorship from the judicial bench.

At some point, these self-aggrandized judges simply need to be ignored for the pesky nuisances they’ve become.

The Supreme Court needs to take action, as Justice Thomas has noted. It is not within the judicial power of a local district judge to issue national decrees.

For the last 30 years undetectable guns have been outlawed.
1988 guess the ace reporters didn’t know it or hiding it.

There are plans for bombs on the internet. What’s the diff? They are both illegal to build.

Good! Instead of settlement by the executive branch we’ll get a ruling by the courts on first amendment grounds. Harder for a future Dem president to change.

We need to play their game and go to new Trump judges and have them issue blocks on things like abortions, federal money for Planned Parrenthoon, NPR, and all the socialistic giveaways the demwits love. If just any judge can infringe my 2nd Ammendment rights than we should be able to turn their own tactics against them.

Sorry judge, this is the digital age. I am sure all those blueprints are already available on peer to peer sites or the dark web. You can’t put the genie back in the bottle.

Hell, if the government doesn’t want them released, then wikileaks might host them.
