Federal prosecutors are investigating former lobbyist Tony Podesta, former Rep. Vin Weber, R-Minn., and former Obama White House Counsel Greg Craig, NBC News confirmed, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.
CNN first reported the existence of the investigation.
Prosecutors for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York opened the investigation following a referral from the office of special counsel Robert Mueller, the sources told NBC.
NBC previously reported that Mueller had been looking into Podesta and his Democratic-leaning lobbying firm as part of its broader investigation into the finances of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
Tony Podesta is the chairman of the Podesta Group. His brother, John Podesta, was the campaign chairman for Hillary Clinton and is not currently affiliated with the lobbying firm. He is also not part of the investigation.
A representative for Tony Podesta declined to comment to CNBC.

This district is still being run by an acting DA. Could be a good move by Trump to appoint one hard nose SOB in there to foil any crooked plan that Mueller may have.

Gregory Craig is the same chap who conducted the independent investigation that “cleared” the Obama presidential transition team in general, and Rahm Emanuel in particular, of engaging in communications with disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich as to the appointment of Obama’s replacement in the US Senate. The preferred Obama successor candidate was Valerie Jarrett (who made a small fortune through a series of lucrative governmental appointments).
Blagojevich ultimately found himself arrested on charges of trying to solicit a bribe in returning for the appointment (a few of the others lobbying for the position were Jesse Jackson, Jr., and Jan Schakowsky — Jesse, also ended his career in prison).
Blagojevich was impeached, convicted and imprisoned. Jarrett went on to do untold damage to the USA as Obama’s Svengali.

Window dressing. I heard months ago that Podesta was being given immunity. Sorry, but don’t remember the source at this hour. I’ll try to find that again tomorrow. Podesta didn’t get a no-knock raid in the dark of the night. Anyone who believes that Mueller is seriously investigating Podesta, well, what can I say? Maybe I can sell London Bridge to ya.
