Only two Idaho drivers have been cited for driving too slowly in the fast lane since the state’s new “slowpoke” law took effect July 1. Three other drivers got warnings that they better go the speed limit in the left lane or scoot over.
Those numbers, current as of July 27, are from the Idaho State Police, which patrols the state’s highways. Tickets for speeding during that time frame — numbering 2,495 — far surpass these five cases of impeding fast-lane traffic.
Even so, the new law gives troopers another tool to keep roads safer, said bill sponsor Rep. Lance Clow, R-Twin Falls.

My grandma and her 2nd husband in Ohio used to drive a bit, like going out to the Dairy Queen. I’m sure the old guy drove maybe 25 MPH - he was about 85. 2 lane roads - no fast lane. They would also call the cops to report suspected burglars and possible spaceship landings on their farm.
Another guy up the road offered to drive my Aunt and cousin to their doctor appointments when they weren’t able to do so. He was 99 at the time. I think he made it to 101.
Hey, try driving in Thailand. Noodle carts dicing it out with 18-wheelers, people driving the wrong way for a bit on a divided highway, u-turns in the center of high-speed highways. Little scooters darting across a 4 lane highway without stopping or looking. 3 or 4 pre-teens on motorbikes going to school ...
Third most dangerous form of driving, after driving while impaired, and speeding.

In the passing lane, the one behind the car in front of it, always wants to go faster than the car in front of it. So if you have a car in the passing lane going 85, the next car behind (who is tailgating) wants to go 90. By the time you are 10 cars deep in tailgaters, the last car in line is going 130 by the time they get in front.
The idiots in my city don’t know how to merge into traffic from on on-ramp. They all thing everyone has to get over to let them nonchalontly merge into traffic, rather than stepping on it and finding their own damn opening to get in.

Nah. I can't remember when a state wide driving law changed here in AZ. It's not like they add them very often. California probably does. They are law happy state. I heard they usually pass 1000 new laws a year.
The truth is we have so many blue haired drivers in this state from folks migrating to get to warm weather than I doubt they would even enforce this law in AZ if it went nationwide. They should of course but I doubt they would.

You will always have people tailgate you. I see it all the time along with stupid people you see switching in and out of lanes.

Your allowed to speed up. It’s not hard. Yes your wrong and you know it. Speed up and pass then get over or slow down and get over. Going 2 mph faster isn’t passing. Duh.

Yes. Either speed up and complete your pass, or change lanes right and slow down a bit behind the cars you are gaining on.
It is safer, obeys the Golden Rule, and actually helps the flow of traffic. (We ran simulations of this very thing in college.)
We have that law in Colorado. It’s nicknamed the “road rage” law b/c you want to kill the person who is riding along in the left lane and stacking up traffic behind them. The law states even if the person is going to speed limit, he/she is to yield to faster traffic behind him/ her. There are posted signs but we still have to deal with it, especially on I 70 in the mountains.

Depends.
I’ve done a lot of long runs on the highway and run into this a lot.
I’ve gotten pretty good at judging about how fast the one behind me is going in relation to my gain on the one in the right.
If it looks like I will get stuck behind the guy on the right because they won’t pass me all the way by the time we get there, I don’t move.
If I think they will, I do.
MANY times in the circumstance I don’t move, they try to pass on the right and they are unable to pass because we both caught up to the guy on the right. Note, I’m exceptionally careful to ensure I don’t change my speed during this time.
I’m not a dick that gets offended that someone is driving faster than me and try to block. I’ve just gotten stuck one too many times on the right when the guy I thought was going to pass didn’t.
So, it depends on how well you can judge the high seas action of 1MPH differentials.
If you can’t, move until you learn how to. Just takes practice.
On the flip side, if I judge wrong, they wind up passing on the right, usually because they sped up (which I do when I pass on right to avoid those dick-types). Again, I am careful not to change my speed when they’re passing.
If they pass me like that and then slow down enough for me to catch up to them, I consider them inattentive and eventually pass them and WILL block if they try to pass me again.
Note, this is only for long runs with consistent speed. You can’t expect consistent speed from folks in local or heavy traffic so should forgive when someone passes and then slows, after all, they could be looking for a turn.
For the case you present literally, a 10mph string behind, I’d move over. You won’t have to wait long behind the guy on the right as they go by.
And, keep in mind, if you notice a 1/4 mile string of cars behind you with no one in front, YOU are the reason these laws are coming on the books!
Everything I do above, I’d be willing to take to court.

A step in the right direction, but national elimination of maximum speed limits, and replacing them with the “Basic (safe) speed limit” is a better way to go.
Also, reflexes should be tested when applying for a license. This is where the road boulder problem can be addressed.

Maybe to pass - but then once they are in front, they drive 75! (”Oh boy - I don’t want to get a ticket!!”)
My 20-year-old daughter was lamenting going 5 mph over in the car-pool lane. Still passing traffic on the right, but had a tailgater pass on the right and got flipped the finger.
“Yeah - it’s tough - but when you can, move over to the right and let them pass. But sometimes that’s really not too easy. And then of course you have to watch out for them passing on the right. But just try to be polite - moving over when you can. And if they flip you off - just shrug it off. Don’t get into a road rage thing with them.”
I’m also real big on watching my mirrors, and moving over before they even get to me. My family is always amazed how I can read traffic.
