Vice Condemns Comedy Classic, Insults Fans: 'Animal House Will Never Die...Should It?'

From the “Liberals Spoil Everything” department, where everything is a problem, here’s Vice writer Harry Cheadle: “Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of 'Animal House' by Tossing It in the Trash -- Drunken frat boys don't seem so charming anymore, and the film's gender politics are 'xxxxx'd' beyond repair.”

From his 2018 perch, Cheadle tears into the offensive, vulgar, and extremely hilarious college comedy hit for its lack of wokeness:

It’s difficult to imagine what it was like when Animal House dropped into theaters on July 28, 1978, exactly 40 years ago. It landed like the opening of a revolution and spread through the country like a virus, eventually grossing over $500 million in today's dollars and becoming part of the DNA of every campus comedy for the next few decades....Animal House will never die. The question is, should it?

After listing the antics of John Belushi’s character, Cheadle quickly got to the more “problematic” scenes, while insulting fans.

Best Thread of the Day. My favorite movie. Got to meet Niedermeyer once when he was filming JAG!

Did you miss the part where Animal House made over 500 million in 1978 dollars?

Donald Sutherland appeared because he owed the director a favor.

Reportedly he took $70,000 up-front instead of a piece of the residuals because he didn’t believe that this film would ever make any money. DOH!

“No she was actually Boome’s Girlfriend.”

Dang! You’re right. Now I have to watch the movie again tonight. There goes my productivity for the week.

Not sure about the fat and drunk part, but Clay has definitely gone through life stupid.

One of the charms of Animal House is it reminds those of us fortunate enough to have attended college after they ceased being reserved for blue blooded snobs, but before they became indoctrination centers for leading cadres of the Proletariat, of how much we got away with. I've put three youngin's through Academia and just quietly shake my head hearing about the constraints they were under to conform. Of course, we were the same "kids" who played outside from dawn to dusk, ate the combined annual sugar crops of Nicaragua and Honduras, played war with cap guns that lacked orange barrel tips, and never heard the whir of any hovering parental helicopters.

Libtards with their asinine world views and constant whining have already pretty much killed everyday jokes, humor, satire, stand-up comedy and fun.

Their idea of humor is a burned out, washed up slut holding a severed Donald Trump head.

They have also been quite successful in rewriting history and imposing their leftist world views on books, modern TV and movies, and the written and electronic media.

No more ‘Roseanne’ or ‘Last man Standing’ because they offend leftists.

Now the libtards are going after the storehouse of vintage movies.

Will it soon become a hate crime to broadcast or sell copies of classic movies that are not in compliance with the modern leftists world view?

Will leftist SWAT teams bust into homes and theaters showing old movies or TV shows like Gone With The Wind, Blazing Saddles, Animal House and Amos & Andy?

LOL! A band I was in used to do that song. And do it well. One guy, who ran our sound, kept telling us to quit being so white.

“But you can’t hold a whole movie responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals....”

Simply perfect sir!

The issue here is not whether Animal House broke a few rules, or had some dialog that was not politically correct, it did. But you can’t hold a whole movie responsible for a few of its sick perverted lines. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame all of Hollywood? And if all of Hollywood is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our institutions in general? I put it to you, Harry: isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do what you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.

My son is a junior at a very liberal university. For the most part, the students see through the liberal pablum. They are not buying it. Animal House behavior and attitudes are alive and well on campus. Once again the media narrative is not factual. The media just wishes it was so.

LOL! Back in the early 70’s, a band I was in played for a “Fiji” islander party (Phi Kappa Gamma) out in the middle of NFW. Grass shacks, coconut bras for the sorority sisters etc. We had to bring a couple of generators for power. What we didn’t realize at the time was the sound was bouncing off a cliff wall across from us and smashing into a wealthy subdivision. Took the sheriffs a while to find us but they did and shut us down. Good times.

Cheadle must have hung out in college with Clayton, Sidney, Mohammed and Jugdish.

Nah. They've got better taste than to hang out with a clown like the author. :-)

Funny thing is, Sidney, Mohammad, etc are still sitting in the same spot, with the same level of acceptance, in all of the Universities. Only now the local liberals point at them and say, "Lookit the minorities! How wonderful we are to be so diverse and welcoming!!"

They’re also paradoxical (hypocritical) in that they call us the “nazis’ when they’re the ones trying to ban books and movies. Of course, they’re hypocritical in so many ways, I can’t keep track. Don’t forget, it was Al Gore’s wife who tried to have certain music banned (though I wouldn’t listen to most of it myself). The left can’t defend its stances, so it has to try to shut down any debate or opposition.

I was a TKE and graduated in 79. Other than some of the over the top stuff....our frat shared quite a few similarities with the movie.

A very funny and entertaining movie. More so then half the crap put out today. Not insulting because, oh its just a friggin movie!

Probably because more than half the crap today is nothing but poor remakes or great movies. There is no imagination for original content!

OT: And nobody asked me but....There is and can only ever be ONE Thomas Magnum, P.I.!

Whew, I feel better now! (reference to new remake of tv show. Higgins is a male, dammit, not a female!)
