California Gov. Jerry Brown is asking President Donald Trump for federal aid to help Carr Fire victims.
The wildfire has charred nearly 45,000 acres and is only 3 percent contained on Friday night.
Dept of Interior
National Park Service
National Forest Service
The CARR fire in N California, near Lake Shasta was NOT started by an arsonist.
It was started when someone driving thru the forest near Whiskeytown blew a tire & drove on the rim, and then pulled over onto dry grass with a hot catalytic convertor.
The arsonist who started 12 fires is down by Mountain Center, near San Diego.
Be safe.
In the 90’s, Clinton & Bruce Babbitt, Sec of Interior, closed down forest roads & actually placed barriers cross them. They also dug holes behind those barriers so fire trucks could NOT enter when needed.
I know this happened. I worked for a welding shop in Nevada City, near Grass Valley, in Calif for a number of years & he made plenty of those gates for them to erect & keep out people AND FIRE CREWS. Saw those gates.
Agreed...
Here’s an interesting article that affected cattle grazing on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
Hundreds of cattle lost, and now 60,000 acres burned.
Even grasslands can be problematic, and this reveals how misguided it is thinking just cutting down swaths of forest will great fire-breaks.
Here in California I’ve had ash fall on my property from fires up to 30 miles away. While the ash wasn’t still smoldering, it give some idea how far embers might travel, granted perhaps a few miles.
Heated air created by these fires create a weather system all their own. It’s amazing to watch a massive weather pattern build from these fires.
Smoke and ash can rise tens of thousands of feet, and blow far far away.
BTW: Here’s that link...
I remember that.
In areas that are accessible, I don’t have a problem with allowing lumber companies go in and harvest downed trees.
As you mention though, roads have to be open.
Of course the Clinton/Gore green squad was out in force, so they shut down such efforts. Can’t have folks logging our beautiful downed trees that will just rot away if not harvested...
There are areas where there are no roads accessing massive acreage of the forests too.
Sometimes it’s just lightening too. I’m sure you knew that, but thought I’d mention it.
You are just addressing contemporary fires too, and the issue of which were arson related.
Send them 1000 tons of soybeans!
It may be National Forest but California moonbats are a big part of the reason we can no longer manage the forests properly. They had to hug every tree to death, now the fuel loading is so high every wildfire turns into a conflagration. I’m not saying I don’t support relief but let’s properly ascess responsibility.
It would be a massive undertaking to cut swaths through all our forest on federal land. And then youd have to go back over them each year to clear them off again, as brush built up behind you.
When I lived in Cali, that’s exactly what was being done. How massive is the undertaking of rebuilding these towns and people’s lives every year?
I am in the Cranston Fire near Mountain Center, but at this point, what difference does it make?

So will Trump pull an obambi, or do the right thing. Hmmm.
“Let me see if I got this right. You give the President and the WH the middle finger then you have the udacity to ask them for aid? Reaaly? “
While I understand the sentiment, you should understand that the people affected by this tragedy voted Trump by about 70%. As high as any region in the nation.
Only the feds have the big resources...men, planes, equipment etc. to handle a disaster of this scale.
Already, as of 0500 this morning, over 500 homes have been burned to the ground. Easily over $100 million in property damage, not to mention the loss of 10s of thousands of acres of wild lands. And trees. And wildlife.
Asshole.
“I feel badly for the firefighters but this is a CALIFORNIA issue created by CALIFORNIA bad fire prevention policies and should be paid for by CALIFORNIA funds.”
No.
It was MOSTLY the US EPA that has caused this, and other catastrophic wildfires in CA and the West.
They will not allow livestock or humans to clear the forests of underbrush. If you’re within a quarter mile of any stream or river, clearing and livestock are off limits.
That’s nearly 100% of Northern California. Going west of Redding you can travel 100 miles, 80 miles wide, and see a stream every 1/4 mile. Or so.
It’s all deeply cut rolling hills, or mountains. All Forest.
“Most of the fire is burning in the National Forest. It is Federal Land and belongs to all of US.”
These people don’t care.
Their emotions have made them stupid.
“..fish moment(???)”
Sorry that you haven’t the courage to fight for your (former) state.
It’s fish or fight with me.
I’m not letting a bunch of socialist leftists or hordes of below the borders illegals drive me from my state. I’m staying along with Free Republic, Devine Nunes, and a whole slew of Conservatives I know in California.
Does Texas know what they got when you moved (fled?) from California? The rest of us aren’t looking for an easy way out. We’re staying here to protect our homes.
The rules that cause these conflagrations are FEDERAL rules, via BLM, DFW and EPA.
