A California man has been taken into custody on suspicion of arson, as firefighters have contained just 5 percent of the blaze that started Wednesday in the Idyllwild area in Riverside County.
The Cranston Fire has destroyed five homes and forced some 3,200 people to evacuate. The fire spread very rapidly, expanding to 4,700 acres in just a few hours.
On Wednesday, the same day the blaze started, California fire authorities arrested Brandon McGlover, a 32-year-old man from Temecula. He has been booked into a detention center for "five counts of arson to wildland," and it wasn't immediately clear what his motivation might be.
The other wildland fires, according to fire authorities, are "within Southwest Riverside County and Federal areas along State Highway 74 in the San Bernardino National Forest."
According to The Associated Press, officials say that McGlover's car "was reportedly spotted at the starting point of the blaze."

I think that intentionally setting a fire that *could* or actually does endanger human life should be prosecuted as attempted murder, in addition to any and all other charges laid.
This happens every year, it seems, and the arsonists seem to get away with a LOT more than what they should.
JMHO, YMMV
Arson is a very efficient way for a black person to kill a lot of white people with very little effort.
Uh, huh.
Well this one has killed a Private Bulldozer Driver trying to help control this mess.

Anger, desire to negatively impact someone, feeling very isolated from people, and the empowerment the fire starter (arsonist) feels from knowing he caused it all, can be the motivators.
It can also beterrorism related.
Any fire can kill a fireman - and occasionally the fire truck hits someone on the way to the fire.
Stack a pile of dried brush, fallen trees and such - place a wooden chair on top of said pile directly in the path of one of the firestorms he set.
Place remote cameras.
Bind this person to said chair.
Broadcast for all to see.
The word gets out fast that starting conflagrations ain’t so cool after all.
Yeah, I know this circumvents due process however this fire freak will not be setting fires ever again.
If found guilty burn him to death.
