Jerry Jones: Donald Trump's interest in anthem issue 'problematic'
ESPN ^ | 07/25/2018 | Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones will not bend on his edict that his players will stand for the national anthem, but he wishes President Donald Trump would not bring the controversy up as often as he does.

"His interest in what we're doing is problematic, from my chair, and I would say in general the owners' chair," Jones said at Wednesday's news conference to open training camp in Oxnard, California. "It's unprecedented, if you really think about it. But like the very game itself, that's the way it is and we'll deal with it.

"We feel strongly about how we deal with it and we'll do so accordingly, but, yes, I, like everybody, would like for it to go away."

When the anthem issue reached a fervor last season, Jones spoke with President Trump on multiple occasions. The president has raised the issue multiple times this offseason and even recently, saying players should be suspended if they choose to take a knee.

At the spring owners' meetings, the NFL announced a new policy that would require players on the sideline to stand for the anthem. Players who do not want to stand could remain in the locker room. In the past, the policy stated players should stand but it was not required.

It’s really funny that that’s what they believe. Protesting the Anthem. Maroons

Trump is the President of the United States of America and Commander in Chief. Insulting the flag and to the Republic for which it stands is a big deal to the President. It is also good politics. The majority of Americans agree with him.

Let's be clear.

Black players started this before Trump was running for President.

The owners dropped the ball when they refused to put their foot down and enforce their own rule about players making political statements during games.

Bears repeating. The NFL already had rules that pertained to this and choose NOT to follow them. They have fined players $50,000 for tape on their helmets...

But, they let it get out on hand and now they are paying the price...

I’m ready to edge back into NFL watching. I love watching professional football. But I swear one disrespectful act, one stupid thug protest, one appeasement towards these overpaid coddled punks, and I’m gone forever. Just enforce the recent rule and play football. You have the other days of the week and the off season to protest anything you want, but leave game day alone and stand for the anthem of the greatest country ever conceived on this earth!

Actually, they do have rules about on field behavior and choose to ignore them. Now they are paying the price...

The NFL has already announced they won’t be enforcing the new rule due to a protest from the NFL players union!!!

Get ready for new protests on day one!! The players are not smart and will soon see a massive drop off in fan support.

The guy with (I think) the Texans who said the inmates were running the asylum was absolutely correct, but totally excoriated for speaking the truth.
The fact is these days the owners know if they take a stand and treat their EMPLOYEES like employees, they’ll be met with cries of racism. They have painted themselves into a corner and are terrified of riling up the elite spoiled athletes.

The political angle is the only one that makes sense. The rest of it is between the thugs and their employers.

No problem here . . . I just stopped watching any of their games . . . no problem. The whole NFL can go to hell (hey, that rhymes!)

But the NBA is specific

According to the NBA’s guidelines, “players, coaches and trainers
are to stand and line up in a dignified posture along the sidelines or
on the foul line” during the playing of the national anthem.

Which is why they should have shut it down on day one! They already had rules they could have used and it would not have been a rallying cry then!

They let it go on and then expand; and are paying the consequences.

Let the overpaid athletes do whatever they want ... the consumer has the choice to validate or void their choice. I haven’t wasted money or time on pro sports in the last 50 years. The same can be said for Hollywood ... the only movie I’ve paid to see in the last 20 years was Lone Survivor.

They were trying to avoid a strike but now they are looking at reduced revenue and a strike.
