Point of order. A company cafeteria is a de-facto local restaurant... About as local as it gets for the workers.
Keep the cafeteria but let local businesses provide food in the cafeteria.
Turn the cafeteria into a mini food court.
If it's a small cafeteria have weekly rotating businesses come in.
Monday: Mikes' Hotdogs
Tues: Tijuana Tacos
Wed: Westend Pizza and Wings
etc...
That would put the cafeteria workers out of work. Such idiots. If employees want to eat off site, no one is holding them hostage. Bet most would opt to eat at their desk meaning not only was the cafeteria workers lost out but also the restaurant workers. Just leave people alone to make their own decisions on how many squares of tp to use, if they want a straw and where they want to eat lunch.
This mindset of control over people is absurd.
Incremental slavery...
Actually, this is retrograde corporate welfare for rent-seeking restaurants.
Hopefully, the SF government will set the example, should this nutty legislation become law, by eliminating the cafeterias and convenience stores in its own buildings.
Nanny State PING!
>>>you cant have an industrial kitchen in your office building<<<
Does this mean all those Restaurants that are on the Ground Floor of Office Buildings will have to close?
Fifty replies and no mention of a major consideration, ALCOHOL.
Perhaps my experiences herding cats is unique?
It only takes one returning stiff to ruin your day.
Had a guy that occasionally brought a single can of beer with his lunch, for years. Never a problem.
Large campus, nice cafeteria, many break rooms with a fridge and coffee...most underused.
Someone complained, so he went out for lunch.
Soon enough someone called security on him, no limit at the local joint.
And I lost a good worker.
The cafeteria in our office is outsourced to a third party who cooks the meals. So SF doesn’t want those types of jobs? Also we have pop-ups from local restaurants in part of the cafeteria so I guess SF wouldn’t want those folks to make money either?
Oh well, I’ll just eat my lunch at me desk sipping on my straw I got with my drink.
Every time I think I’ve heard it all...
Shirley this is joking?

How about banning single home ownership because it denies apartment landlords the rental income?
How about banning private cars because it denies cities the bus and taxi income?
How about banning home washers and dryers because it denies laundromats income?
Shall I go on?

Force your workers to leave the safety of the building, go out into the streets where feces & urine are a constant threat, and force them to eat in restaurants that are heavily staffed by illegal invaders, who have had no health screenings !!!
Sure-—I will open a new business in SF to accomplish all of that !!! NOT !!!
How many SEIU workers will be out of work???
More politicians picking & choosing winners & losers.
We used to have a proper cafeteria where I work, and they made the absolute BEST burgers, even though it was in a hospital setting. In the interest of “cost savings” it was shut down, the entire building repurposed (the freezers are now a temporary morgue!)and the staff reassigned or let go.
The patient meals are now prepared 1500 miles away, then portioned and “re-thermalized” on site just before distribution.
There in no option for staff to purchase any “meal” from this new system, the food is utterly disgusting in appearance, texture, and taste even IF one could get one, and a “food court” consisting of a doughnut shop, a coffee shop and a Subway is your only option on-site.
Most staff either brown-bag it, or head to the grocery store 3 blocks away to get their meals. It’s ridiculous, as the food services department was actually generating a net profit every year, which was used to procure new medical equipment.
Instead, now Accione’ makes horrible food that borders on inedible, and sends the profits overseas.
Cronyism indeed.
If done, this willbackfire bigly.
If workplace cafeterias are banned, the same people will just set up food trucks in the work parking lot and nothing will change.
The idiocy of the left knows no bounds. They lack logic and vision to see how the laws of unintended consequences always stymies liberals intentions and serves the free market.
Imbiciles.
The company my son works for has a 3 meal a day cafeteria/grill with excellent food, tap room, bowling alley, video game room and ping pong.
He works in a satellite office and that’s the only way he can get any work done.
