CNN is, predictably, in wall-to-wall coverage this morning of the tape of a conversation between then-candidate Trump and Michael Cohen that Cohens lawyer Lanny Davis has provided to the network.
But amidst all the fevered speculation about what was said on the tape and what the legal and political ramifications might be, CNN political analyst David Gregory did offer this reality check on Cohen:
This is pretty seedy on his part, as a lawyer, to record his client. And I think the President will have a constituency saying: who is this guy and why did he do that?

Imagine if Robert Kardashian had secretly taped conversations between himself and O.J. Simpson and released them to the public...
Anddddddddddddddd.....WGAS? Most supporters don’t give two damns anymore about any of this crap they keep dredging up and extrapolating into some sort of gotcha. Of course there were those that kept up and still keep up with the birth certificate with Oxxxx. (Go ahead and open up.) LOL!
Mmmmmmm....that is a sticky wicket.
When Cohen hired Davis it showed a what seedy little punk he was. More to come. Davis is a ruthless Rat fixer and hatchet man. The amount of deference Hannitty shows him always puzzled me.
Cohen should be disbarred for this
WHO would EVER hire Cohen again?? NO ONE!
In N.Y. State 328 (1974) we concluded that except in special situations it is improper for a lawyer engaged in private practice to record electronically a conversation with another attorney or any other person without first advising the other party. We said that even if secret electronic recording of a conversation with one party’s consent is not illegal, it offends the traditional standards of fairness and candor that should characterize the practice of law.

Is this the same CNN playing the leaked tape that said it was illegal for us to read Hillary’s emails because they were leaked?
And when you’ve lost David Gregory...
Did you happen to click through and see what co-host John Berman jokingly said?
Im totally never hiring him as my lawyer. Like, at all.
All of this falls at the feet of that horrible human being, ROBERT MUELLER.
He is the man who destroyed the basic rule of law, by invading, like storm troopers, Cohen’s home.
Norah O’Donnell got in an argument with their attorney spokesperson Ricki klaymen saying this has to be the smoking gun that ends Trump’s Presidency, even Trump hater Klaymen had to say it’s a nothing burger. Then NorDUH breathlessly says but but there are more tapes and thousands of documents, and again the attorney had to say it’s a nothing burger.
Thanks for this: very interesting.
I’m guessing that at this point, Cohen is more interested in saving his skin in the short run than in thinking about his future legal career.
What Trump did was legal, what CLinton did was a crime....yawn from the media as they insist this is the smoking gun to impeach Trump.....nothing burger.
No doubt. But I’m also wondering whether that can be used by Trump to prevent the use of any such recordings in a court case.
Every decent American who has ever provided information to an attorney or counselor believes this is the scum of the earth. Someone determine just how much this man billed Trump during their entire relationship. I’ll bet it’s staggering and would sicken the average person.
Gregory is worried that it looks bad that Mueller is now investigating what a client and his lawyers spoke about in private discussions rather than a real crime. That looks like police state stuff. And Gregory is worried not because its an appalling abuse of attorney client privilege, hes worried that its so bad that when Trump says witch hunt and points to this people will say wait, Mueller did that?! It is a witch hunt!
I went with my daughter to interview lawyers the other day. Divorce, custody, and child support. I am paying for it so I wanted to see who I was paying for. I told each one...he’s a nasty sob and we need a nasty sob to beat him. If you can’t do that then we need to move on.
When I hire an attorney I want one who’s a little bit snake.
Interesting possibility.
Evidence illegally obtained by the police can usually be suppressed. Would the same apply to evidence unethically obtained by lawyers, who are, after all, officers of the court? We shall see!
What if the NSA recorded this conversation and gave it to someone in order to smear the President by claiming Cohen made the recording.
Hey; in this devious and demented deep state climate nothing would surprise me. If Seth Rich were here we could ask him what he thinks.
