Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) tells @burgessev and me outside GOP lunch that $12 billion in trade assistance to farmers from Trump administration "this is becoming more and more like a Soviet-type of economy here" with "commissars" sprinkling around benefits.

Image of the Bolton tweet.
Here is my take:
1. Bolton is likely a Trump hater, so he is anxious to find any quote that would link Trump and the "Soviets". Most of the media today is more "McCarthyite" in the mainstream definition of the word than Joe himself.
2. Absolutely NO context to the quote. Who knows if Johnson really meant what Bolton is trying to make it sound like?
3. Johnson should clear this up immediately.
4. I know Trump promised a LONG time ago that if the tariffs hurt American farmers, he would assist them until the trade deals were fixed. For better or worse, I guess. This isn't a surprise, but it should NOT be permanent.
Anyone else have thoughts?
All about Farm Subsidizes.
Particularly Dairy Subsidizes.
Not much to clear up, have you seen Johnson’s Twitter feed? Bashes Trump about tariffs over and over.
Note the “soviet” dog whistle.
Does Johnson address unbalanced tariffs?
My only other thought is that, at least under this administration, I expect we are being made more aware of economic incentives such as “trade assistance”. Under the 0bama administration, any payments they sprinkled around likely went to corrupt motives and causes.
“...Bolton is likely a Trump hater...”
check his green card.
Just another RINO doing his best to ensure that DEMs win seats in the election. Cant the RNC grow a spine and say absolutely not a dime of support for your re-election, Good Luck
Then support a true Conservative candidate?
He's more concerned with the farm vote in 2018, since the harvest comes before the election, and long before the temporary tariffs yield the intended result.
While many US industries have been losers since NAFTA and later trade agreements, many ag sectors have been consistent winners. If ag gets hit a little while Trump is challenging trade partners who’ve had far too good a deal with the US, then so be it.
The biggest problem with Congress is they actually shun their duty and have for years. Instead of what is best for America they choose to protect themselves.
The ignorant, arrogant a-holes in the Senate and the House have completely abdicated their Article I duties and responsibilities, yet they feel they can criticize PDJT with impunity. The RINOs and never-Trumpers are only hurting themselves and setting up to once again be in the minority, which is what that bunch of losers prefers. Zero leadership, zero support for their party’s POTUS, and zero concern for the American people. A pox on them all — vote out every career politician.
I am quite sure that these farm subsidies are a temporary measure to help the farmers get through Trump’s negotiation phase.
The president is working on opening up the markets so that farmers (like everyone else) can enjoy a high demand for their products. He has said before that there may be a little pain during the process. Seeing as the farmers have suffered enough due to unfair trade, a little help while the ship is being straightened does not seem to be Soviet style economics. It’s more like keeping a hard-working sector afloat until their opportunity opens up - I’m sure they’ll take it from there.
They hate this because hurt farmers are supposed to vote democrat in midterms. The louder they scream against farmers the better it will be for House Republicans.
Guess that it’s okay to provide a bailout to insurance companies under a actual Soviet-inspired, controlled-economy edict to buy medical insurance.
With the dems collusion.
Senator Ron Johnson and others are hardly letting the ink dry on President Trump’s tariff efforts. Let the dust settle boys before you let your shorts get in a bunch.....President Trump’s move needs time to mature; President Trump knows how mendacious China is on all fronts.....China isn’t the only game in town, POTUS is trying to juggle half a dozen or more world items trying to make them work.
Tariffs tend to be very sticky and are hard to get rid of. Free money giveaways make it worse because those folks get used to the dole. To make matters even worse, these tariffs are illegal under our WTO membership. So, the Chinese aren't even supposed to be negotiating with us. Their complaint is supposed to go through the WTO court. Even if they wanted to negotiate with us, there is no official demand issued by us for them to respond to.
Strap in. This is going to take a long, long time.
Nonsense. I have not yet heard Trump issue a Five Year Plan for the manufacture of farm tractors or grain harvest yields.
This isn’t a surprise, but it should NOT be permanent.

Most “temporary” government programs have a way of quietly becoming permanent. Its hard to take goodies away once people get used to them.
