But she wasn’t defenestrated.

You must be young. In the Cold War years it was a time-honored method of the Soviets.

The author can write. Citing Orwell as saying cooking is a “half art” is true, only chefs would vehemently object to that belittlement. You beat me to “defenestration,” but notice “peregrinations”-- akin to “peripatetic,” and “Belarusian sushi”—I am sure there is no such thing. A fine article, worthy of reading and posting. Subtle but firm and true politically, and a good vocabulary make for interesting reading.

But the author loses at least 50 points for misusing the word, unless Ms. Sanders was actually thrown out of a window, which was not reported.

The Defenstration of Prague, 1618--Jaroslav Bořita and Vilém Slavata and Filip Fabricius are thrown out of a window (they were all unhurt after they landed)

Somehow I thought ‘defenestration’ was to strip a forest clean. Oh well.

Defenestration

Ridding yourself of Microsoft products. A liberating thing.

I have actually witnessed people thrown out windows, had no idea there was a word for it.

Just another Latin loanword. One can say “de-window” just as easily.

One of my personal favorites is desultory. We know it now as meaning something without a plan, or lacking good order, a mess.

But originally...

“The Latin adjective desultorius, the parent of desultory, was used by the ancients to refer to a circus performer (called a desultor) whose trick was to leap from horse to horse without stopping.” https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/desultory

Some defenestrations are famous. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defenestrations_of_Prague

now combine it with “Overton window” for an eternally-useful and clever turn of phrase

Now that is hysterical! When I first saw the word, I thought, well whatever. But now it makes sense. The French word for window is fenetre, or something like that.

Thanks for the good belly laugh!
