A cardiologist who once treated former President George H.W. Bush was gunned down Friday morning while riding his bicycle through Houston’s Texas Medical Center.

The area where the shooting took place is part of a 1,345-acre complex of hospitals and medical institutions, including the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and is teeming with traffic and pedestrians during the day.
Hausknecht was going to work at Houston Methodist Hospital when he was shot, the hospital's CEO said in an email to staff.

Bicyclists are not generally known for shooting each other. Apparently there were witnesses, since there is a close description of the shooting and the appearance and clothing of the shooter. This may have been an ambush by someone who knew the doc's commuting habits, but a pro would presumably have picked some more secluded location. So would an intelligent amateur. The circumstances suggest a spur of the moment shooting. Maybe the doc and the shooter had just had a riding incident and a random Mr. Unstable snapped.
Of course, the description says the shooter was a white or Hispanic male. Could be drug or gang related. There are 1001 ways for doctors to get sideways with druggies. The shooter was wearing a warmup jacket in 100 degree heat. For all we know, he was covering up his MS-13 tats. The point being: we don’t have a clue.

A bike is an excellent getaway vehicle. It can easily be dumped and can go places cars can’t. The rider can easily be disguised as there’s no identifying walking gait and it’s hard to give body details when one is bent over. No identifying license plates, bumper stickers and make/model like cars.
Bike to bike? Seems targeted. Wonder if he biked a route every day. The doctor worked at Texas Orthopedic Hospital which is less than a mile from where he was shot. He was headed to Houston Methodist Hospital and all is right around each other. That neighborhood is like medical complex central. Lots of medical facilities around. Residents are majority black.

It does seem targeted, but it’s odd. Shooting while turned on a bicycle can’t be good for accuracy. The doctor initially survived and was able to summon help.
I think if you wanted to assassinate somebody, there would be better ways.
Late in the evening yesterday, Mr. b decided to ride his motorcycle. Was back in no time because it was so hot.
The doctor was shot at 8:50 am. Heck it was like opening an oven when I let the dogs out this morning at 7 and I immediately turned on the desk fan. So, yeah, the warm up jacket was to hide his description and that’s too early in the day for the run of the mill thugs to be out.
