AUSTIN, Texas - Charlotte City Council Member-at-Large James Mitchell raised his fist in the air, and then hugged Councilman Ed Driggs.
The crowd rose to its feet.
The Republican National Committee, on Friday, officially named Charlotte as the host city for the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Came down to Las Vegas or Charlotte. The gambling connection makes Las Vegas controversial.
Well many will say Vegas would have been a better choice but I agree = and it would be very glitzy.
But Charlotte is a liberal haven in a Trump supporting state....along with inside the beltline Raleigh.
I hope it goes well. Bet the cops are not happy, though there will be a lot of overtime pay. Maybe the big riots will be at the Dem convention, like in ‘68.

Like your idea. NC went for President Trump too.....and it was going to be a close call....but it wasn’t.

I thought so too but putting the convention in a “squishy” Repub state might get the base mobilized. Plus the major cities in the other states would be hostile and don’t have southern hospitality!!
Milwaukee Wisconsin is one of 3 cities up for the D convention.

Half the city council members of Charlotte voted against having the convention there.
Too bad the RNC didn’t pull their invitation when they found out they were not welcome.
No doubt the Charlotte police will be given the “stand-down” order very quickly at the first sign of unrest.

Tip for Republican Charlotte citizens:
Here in Aiken County, SC, we ‘put up’ with the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA which is a half hour or so from here. Lots of folks here in Aiken County rent their house to Masters attendees for the week and then get out of town.
I’ve had lots of folks tell me that renting their house for that week pays the mortgage for that month.

Actually, that is not a bad location. NC is now a purple state. So are neighboring Virginia and Georgia.
The Carolinas still yearn to be a major player in something besides basketball.
Personally I think it would have been better to put it in a cherry red city, with extremely tight security. Every Islamist and leftist maniac will do anything to mess with it.
