Former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney tore into President Trump on Monday after Trump challenged the intelligence community's assessment that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, calling Trump's behavior "disgraceful and detrimental to our democratic principles."
Romney's comments came hours after Trump held a joint news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, in which he questioned whether Russia was behind efforts to meddle in the 2016 election.
"President Trump's decision to side with Putin over American intelligence agencies is disgraceful and detrimental to our democratic principles," Romney, who is running for Senate in Utah, said in a statement posted on Twitter.
"Russia remains our number one geopolitical adversary; claiming a moral equivalence between the United States and Russia not only defies reason and history, it undermines our national integrity and impairs our global credibility."
Romney's statement was one of several GOP rebukes of Trump's performance at the press conference. Romney had taken a noticeably softer approach to the president in recent months after being fiercely critical during the real estate mogul's 2016 presidential bid.
Trump has offered Romney his endorsement in his bid to replace the retiring Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).
Trump's comments on Monday, however, drew criticism from across the political spectrum, with both Republicans and Democrats criticizing him for failing to say whether Russia interfered in the election and casting doubt on his own intelligence community, while standing next to Putin.

Russia should be our closest ally.
Russia, being a Christian power, is a natural ally for the United States. I see Trump and Putin as powerful Christian warriors who are taking on the Satanic global elite and worldwide Islam.
The atheistic leaders of weak decadent Western Europe are useless. Those decaying societies will soon be conquered and Islamified. Buckingham Palace has already installed foot baths. Mysterious crescent moon flags have been seen flying atop government buildings in France. Thousands of Muslim-only no-go zones are all over the NATO countries in Europe. They’re lost. Those countries should be left to their fates.
The USA should pull out of NATO as soon as possible and pursue a form alliance with Russia. Donald Trump, Putin and the Trump family (Don Jr. in 2024!) can reinvigorate the Christian world.
I have a feeling that Trump and Putin have made plans that aren’t yet public. I feel good about it.
At least Mitt is honest in that he holds to Demcrat principles....and explains his NeverTrump dogma.

I remember walking with the kids Trick or Treating during the campaign and most signs were for Romney. I was disheartened when he lost but what did we really lose just like with McCain? If one of those two won, we would most likely not get a President Trump.It is unprecedented that former GOP candidates and present GOP politicians bash relentlessly the sitting President. This is absolutely unheard of within the DNC let alone in the history of American politics which is in the gutter.
