The original version of a dance that is still popular:
The Hokey Pokey--The Sun Valley Trio (1949)
The hit version:
The Hokey Pokey--Ray Anthony & His Orchestra (vocal by Jo Ann Grier & the Skyliners) (1953)

Now who wants to waltz and minuet?
Two hundred years ago, you bet.
But I want to dance right up to date,
'Cause this is 1958.
Tom Foolery--The Monotones (1958)

In this tune, which comes from Quebec, a girl tries to persuade a man to dance with her at a honky-tonk and eventually succeeds. The dance that is done to the tune is a circular dance in which partners are changed. It continues until all the men and women have danced with one another at least once.
La Bastringue (the honky-tonk)--La Bolduc (1930)

In my generation, there were many dance music hits, but for me this one stood out the most and is the most memorable. Its still popular for those who remember the slow dances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBRCvVpknvg

Believe it or not, Senator John McCain once said that "Dancing Queen" by ABBA is his favorite song. A far cry from the Number One song on the day he was born,
"Until the Real Thing Comes Along."
