Trump fires back at critics of Putin presser performance, as Hoyer echoes 'treason' slam

President Trump dug in Tuesday amid bipartisan criticism over his press conference with Vladimir Putin, claiming the "Fake News" is ignoring what he described as a successful summit -- and his tough stance with NATO actually helped the alliance counter Russia's influence.

The president defended his talks with Putin via Twitter, after being greeted to a political firestorm in Washington upon returning from the Helsinki summit.

Members of both parties criticized Trump for not publicly standing by U.S. intelligence assessments that Russia meddled in the 2016 election. As GOP lawmakers discussed crafting a resolution to endorse those findings, Democrats took their criticism to new levels on Tuesday.

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Trump's remarks were "nothing short of treason," echoing comments from Obama CIA boss John Brennan.

But Trump tweeted Tuesday that his NATO meeting, where he pressed allies to commit more in defense spending, as well as the Putin summit were a success. Further, he argued his actions at NATO would be bad for Russia.

“I had a great meeting with NATO. They have paid $33 Billion more and will pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars more in the future, only because of me. NATO was weak, but now it is strong again (bad for Russia). The media only says I was rude to leaders, never mentions the money!” Trump tweeted on Tuesday.

The Republicans in on this should rot in hell. They KNOW Trump has stood up to Russia. They are scum to whom America is their toy to be played with.

You have two versions out in the public domain: the one the Deep State has been pushing for a year and a half to try to take you down, or the version given by a foreign leader, eye-to-eye. Which one you gonna believe?

Trump lifted a middle finger to the fake news media and deep state operatives.

And if you can’t see the treason in accepting a soccer ball, well hell then you’re just not looking!

The Democrats must have done something REALLY bad to be trying this hard to deflect attention from them.

It is hilarious to see the Leftists and Progressives outdoing Senator Joseph McCarthy when they think that they can score some cheap points in doing so. I can recall Obama kowtowing to Putin and promising greater “flexibility” after the 2012 election.

These lunatics are absolutely hysterical to keep the Muller probe going despite negligible results to date.

Reagan faced these very same criticisms from both Left and Right when he met Gorby in Reykjavik.

Nothing new under the Sun.

In a couple weeks they will be hysterical over something else.

When it comes to this, not a dime’s worth of difference between Democrats and Republicans, both have been slime on this.

The right has two choices:

1) Ignore the whining of the left as hysterics.

2) They should say that anybody who calls Trump a traitor is a traitor themselves... is trying to bring down an American president who broke no laws.

The left sounds like the John Birch society, the CIA is actively calling for a coup, and the MSM plays right along with it. Where are the sane Democrats? There never have been all that many but they existed at one time. All purged? Guess so.

appears there is a new card in deck, only to be dealt when the 'racist ' card fails. and that is the 'treason' card.
That's a serious charge to be bantered about so casually.

You think Nixon didn’t face this when he went to China?

But he did it anyway. That’s Leadership! Regardless of whether or not you agree with the outcome.

Definition of treason

1 : the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance

Can ANYONE point out where Trump is trying to overthrow his own presidency please? I’m confused- I keep hearing the left scream ‘Treason Treason’ but see no actual evidence of treason

We desperately need real and effective intelligence agency oversight. They obviously cannot be trusted to police themselves, and Congress includes those who are either afraid of them, or who are in collusion with them. I don't know the mechanics of doing such a thing, but I if possible I would start an Executive Branch run intelligence agency oversight entity, and part of the charter would be that it would have to include 35% private citizens with no formal political affiliations (i.e. no elected office, no connections with those currently or formerly holding office, etc.), 25% lower to mid-rank military personnel with security clearances (or the ability to get security clearances), and 25% retired law enforcement (NOT FBI or CIA connected). The penalty for tampering with the independence of any of these individuals would be an automatic 30 year prison sentence without parole.
