I donated last week, but should donate again.
Over 17 years a FReeper. Am retired, but may need to step up more.
God Bless Free Republic.
Wow.
Who knew so few supported so many!
Come on freepers, do a monthly for a couple of dollars a month.
Freerepublic saves the greatest Constitutional Republic in the world!
Honest to God, if my pitifully fixed income can manage a monthly, as meager as it is, almost anyone can.
Tho FR has its occasional glitches, they only serve to remind me of the gist of the old quote attributed to Churchill:
It's not perfect, but it beats hell out of all the others.
This interminable fundraising of late also serves to remind me, sadly, of something else:
Freeloading is, apparently, not the exclusive province of the seditious left :-\
BUMP!

Thank you very much onyx for putting this out here for all to see and ponder.
Considering the number of people that count on Free Republic to stay informed, it's mind blowing to think that not enough are contributing to keep these FReepathons from stretching out endlessly.
I implore all our FRiends to make it a priority to contribute as generously as possible, and to take the painless route of setting up automatic monthly donations.
Thank you my dear FRiend for this thread and the stats you brought up, it’s an eyeopener.
Nowhere that I know of can a person go to a site and get the news, converse with conservatives and enjoy the insight that so many are willing to put out there.
Free Republic is easy to use so it’s simple to join in the discussions and exchange ones thoughts.
God bless you FReepathon team members, you do an excellent service for the thousands that use this site.
Finally something we can blame on the Freemasons. Jacques DeMolay was arrested on Friday the 13th by the French king in conjunction with Pope Clement V. The king wanted the gold stored in Templar vaults for pilgrims journeying to Jerusalem. The Pope was under pressure because the Templar’s fighting forces were well tested against pirates and highwaymen (mostly Muslim) and Europe’s kings feared their military prowess.
DeMolay was tortured for months before being publicly burned at the stake. His parting words were a curse upon the King and the Pope. Within months the Pope died, and the king succumbed to a mysterious ailment. Hence the curse of Friday the 13th is known to this day.
Thank you very much, dearest onyx!! Great thread!!

I have said it before...FR is invaluable to me. Sometimes there is a lot of negativity, a lot of back-biting, and incivility, all of which I am an occasional participant.
I cannot overstate the personal value I find in Free Republic.
From the time I set up my account and was invited by kristinn down to a Walter Reed Freep where I became friends with the DC Chapter, Free Republic has been a bastion of knowledge, education, and my first stop for news going on 14 years now.
I don’t watch television, and haven’t for several decades now, so every single day I login to FR and see what the current events are. I can get knowledgeable discussion, debate, and many sides of an issue to give me a jump start on any given current event, and I feel I am far better versed in the specifics of current events (and history as well) than nearly anyone I know who watches the alphabet networks or reads the papers as a primary source of their information.
Like any source of information, one has to take it all with a grain of salt. Even here on FR, we have the range of viewpoints stood up by people that run from coldly factual to hilariously inaccurate or conspiratorial. We get them all.
But rational (if not always civil and reasonable) debate from people who inhabit all walks of life, from nearly every imaginable industry, with unlimited personal experiences that can encompass nearly any subject, tends to separate the wheat from the chaff, and the truth rises to the top.
As a method of more closely approximating the truth in nearly anything, comparing the concept of crowdsourcing an issue on a forum like Free Republic (where there is as close to open discourse as can be found anywhere in society today) to the concept of having information packaged and spoon-fed to you from established media sources (like the NYT, CNN, ABC, etc) who are dependent on viewing eyes, and who are dedicated to presenting reality to those eyes as THEY THINK IT SHOULD BE PRESENTED...well, it isn’t even close.
So, thank you for creating and maintaining Free Republic. God Bless You.
